Simple Valentine’s gestures as valuable as grand ones, says relationship expert

It’s Valentine’s Day, but that doesn’t necessarily mean couples need to go out and make grand romantic gestures, says a local relationship expert.

Susan Wenzel, a certified sex therapist, told 680 CJOB Thursday that on a day like Valentine’s Day, sometimes the little things are what matters.

“For couples who don’t want to follow that commercialization, you can honour this day by being mindful and telling each other why they love each other,” said Wenzel.

“Just sending your partner a text and telling them why you love them, that could be enough.

“It doesn’t have to be a big thing, it can be simple things. Just reminding your partner that they’re lovable. I’m always for love, so anything to remind couples to love each other, to remember each other, I’m always up for that.”

Wenzel said single people shouldn’t feel left out on Valentine’s Day either.

“They have someone they can love. They can always love themselves,” she said.

“The more we love ourselves, the more it will be easy to love each other.”

“They can always be intentional, be mindful throughout the day to love themselves.”
