Powerful story behind stunning green dress Kate wore to helpline launch

The Duchess of Cambridge looked stunning in a stylish green dress as she arrived in London to launch a new charity helpline.

Kate met with staff and volunteers at Family Action, which supports anyone struggling with issues ranging from relationship difficulties to mental health.

Fashion fans were impressed by her sophisticated outfit choice, believed to be a modified version of a £550 dress by Beulah London.

As well as being a style hit, there’s also a very important story behind the brand – and it’s obvious why the Duchess has chosen to promote the company.

It was set up by Lady Natasha Rufus Isaacs and Lavinia Brennan after they took part in a volunteer mission in Delhi in 2010.

They met women who had been trafficked into the sex trade and saw first hand how their lives had been torn apart.

So they decided to combine their love of fashion with their new passion for the cause, and set up their own ‘luxury womenswear brand with a social conscience’.

Their website states: "In 2010 we embarked on a volunteer mission in Delhi, helping transform the lives of vulnerable women who had been trafficked into the sex trade against their will. It proved to be a mission that would transform our lives too.

"We experienced first hand the awful effects that modern day slavery imposes on innocent lives. But we also learned how by helping others find opportunities and employment, small acts of kindness can carry a truly significant impact of providing hope for the future.

"Instantly compelled, the seed was sown to educate others on how they can help break the cycle of poverty for these women. Simultaneously, we were inspired to contribute to something greater than ourselves whilst doing something we loved…

"Beulah was born.

"A luxury womenswear brand with a social conscience. Every beautiful garment we sell helps us support vulnerable women through employment."

Kate opted for the Yahvi dress for her visit to the Family Action’s headquarters in Forest Hill today.

It is described as "modest and refined" and "leading to a floaty skirt with button detail and split to give great movement."

The new helpline, named FamilyLine, to provide support and guidance for parents and children.

The charity is celebrating 150 years of helping vulnerable people, and today it supports about 45,000 families a year in Britain.

Kate’s visit was hosted by David Holmes, the chief executive of Family Action, who is a member of the Duchess’s early years steering group.

This group looks at ways of improving how society supports children so they have the resilience to cope with life’s pressures when adults.

Kate also viewed the Family Monsters campaign film that has been produced to mark Family Action’s 150th anniversary.

The campaign highlights the hidden monsters that many families face, such as debt, addiction, lack of time together, relationship issues and mental health issues.

Mr Holmes said: "We are so grateful to the Duchess of Cambridge for visiting Family Action’s services today, for her interest in our work and addressing family pressures and for officially launching Family Line.

"The Duchess’s support will encourage many more families to talk about their ‘family monsters’."
