Kate Middleton First Wore Her BAFTAs Gown Almost a Decade Ago

This year, the dress code at the EE British Academy Film Awards was right up Kate Middleton's alley. A week before the award show it was revealed that attendees were encouraged to "dress sustainably" for the event, and the queen of outfit repeats was more than happy to oblige. 

On Sunday, the Duchess of Cambridge hit the red carpet in an Alexander McQueen look she first wore for a state dinner in Malaysia in 2012. Recycling the dress nearly a decade later, Kate made it feel modern with the addition of a few key accessories. 

This time around, she complemented the floor-length gown with a pair of sparkly gold Jimmy Choo pumps, a matching clutch, and a mother of pearl necklace and earrings by Van Cleef & Arpels. 

Meanwhile, in the beauty department, Kate trade her original half-up, half-down hairstyle for an updo. 

The 2020 BAFTAs' fashion guidelines were part of the academy's plans for a first-ever carbon neutral awards ceremony. “Sustainability is very important to BAFTA, and we’re doing more than ever before. The goal is that the EE British Academy Film Awards 2020 will be carbon neutral, working towards having a net positive impact on the environment," a spokesperson told Harper's Bazaar UK. 

"From travel and food, to branding and materials, BAFTA is ensuring the awards are as sustainable as possible.” We'd say, mission accomplished.
