British tourists are the most annoying, according to Americans

The British are coming! The British are coming!

And Americans are totally fed up with them.

Flight comparison site Jetcost surveyed 4,200 American adults on their opinions of tourists. Some 2,600 respondents say they regularly come into contact with visitors — and that they’re often irritated by their presence.

Study participants found British tourists the most insufferable, with roughly 1,300 respondents claiming they’re the most annoying. Next up: German tourists. Third are visitors from Brazil.

When asked which bothersome attributes these visitors display, the bulk of American respondents — more than 1,550 of them — said they tend to overcrowd local areas. Those surveyed also said these visitors don’t tip enough at local establishments like restaurants, bars and cafes. They reported these visitors often behave in drunken or disorderly manners.

Tourists from Japan were the most agreeable, the study found, followed by Canadian and Chinese visitors.

But perhaps Americans are just plain judgmental.

Nearly three-quarters of the study pool said they actually find fellow Americans to be the most annoying when they travel abroad, with about half of respondents claiming they purposely book trips to destinations that don’t receive many American visitors.
