Would you wear this high-cut bikini?

Some social media users say that this super-high-cut bikini isn’t made for women’s bodies.

Earlier this month, Australian retailer Beginning Boutique uploaded an Instagram photo of its Heron swimsuit, which features a crop-top shirt and a bikini bottom with a very high waist and narrow cut. The image caused an online stir with social media users, who questioned the swimsuit’s design.

“One false move and the world is your gynaecologist,” one Instagram user said.

“This is a straight [vagina] flosser,” another user wrote.

Blogger Laura Belbin was inspired to spoof the photo.

“The model [in the original photo] looks incredible, but it is the most unrealistic swimwear option for 90% of the population,” Belbin, 34, told the BBC.

Belbin hopes her photo encourages other women to not feel ashamed of their bodies.

“We have rolls of fat. We have cellulite. We have stretch marks. We don’t always shave our bikini lines,” she said. “Why is it that we have to feel ashamed? So, whenever I do my expectation versus reality photos, I am taking the mick out of myself, but it’s also highlighting the fact I do not look like her and that is actually OK, I don’t need to.”

A Beginning Boutique rep told the BBC that “body shaming is never appropriate” and encouraged women over 25 to get tested for cervical cancer.
