Danse Lente “Mini Phoebe” bag, $609.

Danse Lente means "slow dance" in French, which is a fair description of how London-based handbag designer Youngwon Kim approaches her work. Kim collaborates with tanners and metalworkers to simplify her shapes, which are inspired by Brancusi, Picasso and the Bauhaus movement. Danse Lente "Mini Phoebe" Bag, $609 davidjones.com

Maison Kitsune “ACIDE” tote, $80, incu.com

This collaboration between Perth-born artist Christina Zimpel and French fashion and music label Maison Kitsuné is totes cool. In the ACIDE collection, Zimpel uses her signature loose, Matisse-inspired brushstrokes to recreate the brand’s fox logo (“kitsune” is the Japanese word for fox). Her eye for colour turns an everyday staple – a stylish cotton bag – into wearable art.
