Prince George, Charlotte and Louis open their Christmas presents BEFORE their cousins due to ‘royal privilege’ rule

BEING A royal child comes with some serious perks, including early access to your Christmas presents.

Prince George, Princess Charlotte, and Prince Louis all follow a family tradition that is in line with their family's German heritage.

This is where they open all their presents on Christmas Eve, while the majority of families wait till the following day.

Former royal chef Darren McGrady said: “The royals are of German descent so they weave in German traditions to their celebrations.

“After afternoon tea, they open gifts on Christmas Eve, as is the German tradition.”

However, their cousins on the Middleton side will be holding off for another day as they don't have the royal tradition in their family.

Kate and Wills do hold a few gifts back to give the children on Christmas Day to extend the excitement to the big day as well.

Back in 2018 Kate said that George and Charlotte had been “up early” opening presents.

Prince William previously revealed that George always tries to get his mitts on his gifts in advance.

Speaking to Kiss FM's AJ King in 2016, the future King said: "He said they were all really excited about it and that George is already opening his presents.

"He thought it a quite funny. That’s kids for you, even the ones that are princes!”

It seems like the urge to open presents in advance has been passed down from generation to generation as it's also something Princess Diana confessed to.

In a letter to a friend in December 1985, Diana said: "I rushed home to open your Christmas present, which I thought was quite good considering the 25th is actually two weeks away!!

“I could not resist opening my present, as a parcel of any shape or form has never been safe with me and I fear that William has also picked up this dreadful habit from his mother, as I find wrapping paper undone in the most extraordinary places!”
