This Morning’s Daisy Payne says gardening ‘helped her through grief’ after losing family member

This Morning's Daisy Payne has shared the touching reason she decided to take up gardening.

Gardening guru Daisy, 24, has been sharing her many green-fingered tips and tricks on the hit ITV show, much to the delight of viewers.

And, discussing how the journey began, Daisy told OK! it was actually spurred on by the loss of a close family member.

The blonde star shared: "I took on my allotment in early 2020 having been on the waiting list for two years. It felt like forever! I took it on just before the first lockdown and shortly after sadly my grandpa died from COVID.

"I honestly have no idea how I’d have got through the grief without my allotment. Having the allotment and connecting with nature helped me manage my mental health through that really difficult period of time."

Daisy describes her gardening as "like a kind of therapy" for her, and shared that it's a way for her to "manage [her] mental health."

She shared that her family are very proud of her gardening ventures, adding: "My family have been so supportive. I’m very lucky. They’re proud of what I’m doing and I’m not sure they can quite believe I’m on TV!"

When Daisy isn't in the garden, the fashion-lover spends time experimenting with different ways of making soap and candles using the herbs and fragrances she finds in her garden.

"I think they’ll make for the perfect homemade Christmas presents. Aside from that, I love going out with my friends, walking my dog Ernie and of course… all things fashion," Daisy shared.

Daisy can be found sharing an insight into her life over on Instagram, where she has 14,000 followers.

In her bio, the blonde beauty describes herself as a "garden & allotment holder."

As well as having a fondness for nature, Daisy is also into outfits and she has an amazing fashion sense.

Perhaps unsurprisingly, she enjoys wearing floral dresses.

Daisy often shares photos of her adorable pooch Ernie on Instagram too, who accompanies her in the garden.

Discussing her slot on ITV, Daisy playfully told us that she has both "cried and snorted with laughter" while on the hit show.

"I love everything about working on the show! Since I first started out on Instagram, my focus has been about showing the basics of gardening in the hope I can inspire people to give it a go.

"Being on the show is just fabulous! I have cried and snorted with laughter so many times on live TV this year and when Holly mentioned that she’d been looking for her sweetcorn growing underground… well, what a moment that was! Iconic."
