Scott Walker dead: How did he die? What was The Walker Brothers star’s cause of death?

Scott Walker’s death was announced by independent record label 4AD who said they were honoured to have worked with the star for 15 years. A representative for the indepedent record label 4AD told Express.co.uk the cause of death was cancer. The label also said in a statement: “It is with great sadness that we announce the death of Scott Walker. Scott was 76 years old and is survived by his daughter, Lee, his granddaughter, Emmi-Lee, and his partner Beverly. “For half a century, the genius of the man born Noel Scott Engel has enriched the lives of thousands, first as one third of The Walker Brothers, and later as a solo artist, producer and composer of uncompromising originality.”Scott Walker has been a unique and challenging titan at the forefront of British music: audacious and questioning, he has produced works that dare to explore human vulnerability and the godless darkness encircling it.”

Scott was born in 1942 and began his music career as a session bassist and the star later changed his name to Scott Walker once he joined the band.

In 1964, he teamed up with John Maus – who was naming himself John Walker – and became The Walker Brothers along with their drummer Gary.

The band scored two No 1 hits with Make It Easy On Yourself and The Sun Ain’t Gonna Shine.

The group’s other big hits also include No Regrets.

Tributes have poured in for the musician with Radiohead’s Tom Yorke saying on Twitter: “So very sad to hear that Scott Walker has passed away, he was a huge influence on Radiohead and myself, showing me how I could use my voice and words. Met him once at Meltdown, such a kind gentle outsider. He will be very missed.”

Actor and writer Mark Gatiss said: “No!! Scott Walker,” followed by a sad-faced emoji.

Another person tweeted: “RIP Scott Walker; an unforgettable voice like a cathedral lit by a sunset.”

While a fourth person added: “Another huge loss to music. One of the most significant singer-songwriters of our era. His un-mistakable voice, innovation & influence. Scott Walker, experimental pop hero, dies aged 76.”

The musician lated shunned the limelight and released solo albums including Scott, Scott 2, Scott 3 and Scott 4.

In the 1970s The Walker Brothers reunited for their last album together.

The innovative singer was celebrated with a Proms concert at London’s Royal Albert Hall in 2017.

Scott went on to work with the likes of Pulp, and has been cited as an influence by many musicians.

He produced the band’s 2001 album We Love Trees.

More recently he completed the score to Natalie Portman film Vox Lux.

The singer is survived by his daughter, Lee, his granddaughter Emmi-Lee, and his partner Beverly.
