Punk Star Hazel O’Connor Shows ‘Signs of Improvement’ After Put in Coma With Bleed on the Brain

The ’80s star has been showing ‘small steps’ of improvement after she’s rushed into the hospital following ‘a serious medical event,’ according to a statement shared by her brother Neil O’Connor on social media.

AceShowbiz –Hazel O’Connor is on the mend after being rushed into the hospital and put into an induced coma with bleed on the brain. According to her family, the punk star has been showing “positive signs of improvement.”

On Monday, January 17, her brother Neil O’Connor shared an update via her Instagram account. Alongside a photo of the 66-year-old ’80s star, he wrote, “Hazel has been showing positive signs of improvement, only small steps at this point,” adding, “We have had to give extremely serious thought to Hazel’s activities in the short, medium and long term.”

A few hours earlier, Neil announced that on January 9, Hazel was put into a coma after suffering “a bleeding on the brain.” Neil added that Hazel “was discovered at her place in SW France and was found to have suffered a serious medical event.”

“She was taken to her local hospital where it was determined that she’d had a bleeding on the brain,” Neil continued. He further noted that “she should be transferred to a major hospital where her condition could more effectively monitored.”

Neil shared that Hazel “was put into an induced coma for about 24 hrs and brought out of it Monday evening and since then has been showing a lot of progress.” He pointed out that Hazel’s recovery “is going to take a while but she is tough and is responding to stimuli and to treatment.”

“She’s receiving the best of care i and I thank the French medical service there for taking such good care of her,” Neil wrote. He then thanked those who “were on the spot to help and have been my liaison all through this time and have been updating me daily about Hazel’s condition,” adding, “all positive thoughts, vibes, intentions are appreciated.”

Neil went on saying that there will be a separate notification from Hazel’s management as regards tour dates and shows as she had been scheduled to play an anniversary tour in March, marking 40 years since the release of her debut album “Breaking Glass”. Neil concluded his message, “Thanks for taking the time to read and for your love of my dear sister.”

Fans flocked to the comment section of the post to wish “The Eighth Day” singer a speedy recovery. “Get well soon Hazel..a talent beyond belief, hope to see you belting out your amazing songs again soon,” one fan wrote. Another commented, “Thinking of you all and your fantastic concerts I’ve had the opportunity to attend and had one lined up for this summer. Let’s hope your fighting spirit will see you through this.”
