Mike Thalassitis ‘needed therapy’ over Megan McKenna split but ‘wasn’t broke’

Mike Thalassitis was so devastated by his split from 'first love' Megan McKenna that he turned to therapy, his manager says.

The tragic Love Island star, who died in a suspected suicide on March 16, was 'hit really hard' by their July break-up and was 'down' for months after, according to Dave Read.

"He openly admitted that he had really fallen for her. She was his first proper girlfriend and, although he'd dated other people in the past, it was the first time he'd fallen in love, Dave told New! magazine.

He said Mike was 'struggling' after the split and confided in him several times.

"He was quieter than usual and I suggested he needed to see someone to get help," he added.

Mike's Love Island co-star Montana Brown later confirmed he'd gone to therapy and Dave told how in more recent months, Mike had seemed much happier, enjoying socialising and having nights out with his mates.

And contrary to reports that he'd been struggling for cash, Dave said the reality star actually had no money worries.

He also insisted that the pressures of fame, and the trolling that comes with it, didn't bother the Mike in the slightest.

Explaining how he would tell trolls 'where to go', Dave said the star wasn't sensitive to criticism and also embraced his Muggy Mike nickname.

"Mike loved his experience on Love Island. In fact, he enjoyed all the reality TV he did… I think he enjoyed life in the public eye. He wasn't the loudest person in the room, but he was one of those men who everyone noticed," Dave said.

Mirror Online has contacted Megan's rep for comment, and last week the heartbroken 26 year old broke her silence in an emotional Instagram post.

"Sorry I haven't been on social media but I'm in complete shock and trying to come to terms with this," she wrote.

"I can't believe I'm even writing this post. My thoughts and prayers are with Mike's family."

Just weeks before his death she was seen breaking down on Celebs Go Dating as she tried to tell the show's experts about her relationship with Mike.

“I think my last relationship, I was kind of… I think I definitely fell in love," the TOWIE star said.

“I don't really want to talk about it, sorry,” she sobbed.

“But I feel that's all I want, I want that love back.”

As for the reason for their split, Megan previously told OK! magazine that they were just 'different people'.

“I can't even say why we split. I just feel like we're both at different point in our lives.

“There is only so much you can do in a relationship and when it's not working you've got to take separate routes.”

She continued: 'But I wish him all the luck in the world, he's not a nasty person. Everything happens for a reason. It wasn't one of those break-ups like ones I've had in the past where it was really bitter and nasty, this was more a decision we made together.”
