Matt Baker: The One Show host’s co-star Stacey Dooley shocks fans with astounding request
Matt Baker, 41, and his co-host Stacey Dooley, 32, discussed the possibility of a late night edition of The One Show last night, with some seriously racy additions. The presenters got onto the subject while chatting to the voice of Love Island 2019 Iain Stirling, 31, about a gap that needs to be filled in the TV schedule now the ITV dating show has finished for another year. Matt admitted to the comedian: “I have to say Iain, I am missing a bit of Love Island,” to which Iain responded: “What do you do at nine o’clock every night?” The Countryfile star then suggested: “There’s a gap isn’t there? There’s something missing.”
Iain jokingly pointed out there are “only so many re-runs of The One Show” to occupy viewers’ time in the evenings in the absence of Love Island.
The studio then burst into fits of laughter when the funny man conceptualised the idea of an “uncensored” version for fans to enjoy after the watershed.
“That’s what we should do, we should do a One Show uncensored, a 9pm late night One Show,” he cheekily exclaimed.
Matt joined in on the fun as he mischievously told a giggling Stacey: “We could never broadcast it, seriously could we Stacey?
“The stuff that happens in here between sort of six and seven…”
Iain went on to take the racy idea one step further as he pitched: “Matt Baker in a pair of Speedos.”
That’s what everyone wants to see.

Stacey seemed keen on the proposal as she insisted: “That’s what everyone wants to see.”
Matt then shot a cheeky glance at the camera, adding: “And that’s the bits we could show.”
Elsewhere, Matt and Stacey kicked off Strictly Come Dancing season by announcing the first contestants who would be taking to the floor on the BBC competition this year.
Former Strictly finalist Matt introduced the exciting segment on The One Show by saying: “Strictly season starts tonight everybody as we are announcing the first of the Strictly stars of 2019.”
Stacey replied: “We’re sweating,” as the presenting duo had just finished performing an impromptu dance routine.
Matt then quizzed the documentary filmmaker on how she was announced prior to her victorious stint on the dance show last year.
He asked the Strictly winner: “On that note, can you remember when you were announced? How did it happen?”
The journalist replied: “It was all a bit underwhelming actually. Because I was supposed to come on here [The One Show] and it was going to be this huge announcement.
“But I was working overseas so I think they just put it on Instagram.”
She jokingly added: “Oh, we’ve got Stacey just to make up the numbers.”
Matt quipped in response: “You slipped in under the radar and took the trophy.”
The One Show airs weeknights at 7pm on BBC One.
Strictly Come Dancing returns to BBC One this summer.
