Marshmello Sued For Copyright Infringement Over Collaboration With Bastille

Marshmello has been sued by Russian DJ Arty for copyright infringement over his hit collaboration with Bastille, “Happier.”

Arty is claiming that the song was copied from his remix of “I Lived” by One Republic, according to TMZ.

The DJ, whose real name is Artem Stoliarov, claims that 19 of the first 20 notes in the melody of “Happier” are the exact same as in his remix.

Arty released his remix in 2014. It had peaked at No. 2 on the Billboard Hot 100 and remained on the charts for 35 weeks. “Happier” dropped last year and was an instant hit with a stunning 335 million views on YouTube.

Marshmello was recently called out by indie pop group Chvrches on social media for working with Chris Brown and Tyga.

“We are really upset, confused and disappointed by Marshmello’s choice to work with Tyga and Chris Brown,” the band tweeted. “We like and respect Mello as a person but working with people who are predators and abusers enables, excuses and ultimately tacitly endorses that behavior. That is not something we can or will stand behind.”
