According to Good Morning Britain presenter Ranvir Singh, 43, Strictly Come Dancing bosses have been keen to get Ben Shephard, 46, on the show “for years”. Insisting this was the case, the father-of-two said producers needed to increase the fee for him to sign up.

Obviously they’ve got to cover the divorce settlement!

He joked: “We’re having negotiations, we just need to get it up high enough so it’s actually worth it.”

In reference to the so-called Strictly curse, he added: “Well, obviously they’ve got to cover the divorce settlement!”

“Yeah, that is true,” Ranvir laughed.

The curse is a term used to refer to a breakdown in the relationship of a participating celebrity or professional dancer during, or soon after the show.

The presenter’s remarks were made in a chat with Strictly Come Dancing professionals Anton du Beke and Giovanni Pernice.

Anton joked he had been asking producers if he could dance with Ben in a same-sex pairing.

Giovanni added he would also happily have the presenter as a partner.

Ranvir added: “Giovanni said he wants to do a male and male pairing. So, Ben?

“Annie might be more relaxed about you being with a man!”

He replied: “Yeah, I’m sure she would be. Would she? Maybe.”

Ben has been married to his wife Annie since 2004 and they share two sons together.

Could we see him on the dance floor this year?

Strictly Come Dancing introduced their first same-sex pairing, Katya Jones and Nicola Adams, in 2020.

Unfortunately for the pair, their Strictly journey came to an end early after the dancer contracted coronavirus.

They returned to the dance floor for one last time together in the show’s final.

Earlier this week, it was reported Strictly will be returning later this year for a full series including the Blackpool special.

The full professional line-up will also be back on the dance floor.

Last year, Ranvir made it to the semi-final of the show with Giovanni.

During their time on the show, the dancing duo sparked romance rumours, but denied they were more than friends.

At the time, the presenter told The Mirror: “We both find the idea that we might get hit by the curse very funny – he is a 30-year-old man!”

She added her only love is her son Tushaan, who she shares with ex-husband Ranjeet Singh Dehal.
