Expert reveals just how DIFFERENT Ant McPartlin and Declan Donnelly are

Ant McPartlin and Declan Donnelly are returning to TV screens tomorrow as the new series of Britain’s Got Talent starts.

The Geordie duo’s return has been a highly-anticipated one, following Ant stepping down from his TV duties following his three-car crash in March last year.

Ant was fined £86,000 and given a 20-month driving ban after pleading guilty to drink driving, following the incident.

Dec said in a recent interview with The Guardian that he considered ending their partnership, describing Ant’s actions as “indefensible”.

He said: “I’d be lying if I said the thought hadn’t crossed my mind,” he explained. “Of course I thought about it.

“Ant went away, and he had a lot of work to do on himself. He had a lot of thinking to do. Equally, I did. I thought about every eventuality and every permutation.”

However, Dec explained they were able to get both their professional and personal relationship back on track, and commented: “The thing that makes me the happiest [is] working together.”

And it’s no wonder Dec was so happy to get their partnership back on track, as their friendship dates back to 1990, when both Geordie lads starred together on Byker Grove.

In clips shown on on tonight’s Channel 5 documentary – The Comeback of Ant McPartlin – Dec joked that Ant was “miserable” when he first met him.

Ant meanwhile, said he didn’t who Dec was when he joined him on the teenage drama series a year later.

Mark Frith, former Editor of Smash Hits magazine, who knew Ant and Dec well, when they hit the music scene as PJ & Duncan back in the nineties, revealed just how different the  two were.

He explained: “Ant was probably a little bit more wry, a little bit more kind of raised eyebrow, possibly.

“He would be the one to kind of pull a face and bring things back down to normal when Dec was kind of going off on these flights of fancy.”

A former Telstar Records executive added that Dec “was more chatty, direct and cheerful, whereas Ant was more in the background.

“A little more thoughtful, let’s say.”

Well, they do say opposites attract!
