She’s famed for her high-profile relationships with stars including Hugh Grant, Arun Nayar and Shane Warne.

But despite being happily single, Elizabeth Hurley, 53, has revealed her hopes to be in a romance once more, saying it would be ‘fantastic to fall in love with someone wonderful.’

The model and swimwear also admitted that while she would like to meet someone, she would rather be single, than be miserable and in a relationship.

Honest: Elizabeth Hurley, 53, has discussed dating, why she’d ‘rather remain happy and single’ and being ‘best friends’ with her exes in a candid interview with Red magazine

She said: ‘People say, “Are you lonely?” and actually, I’m really not. I’d rather be happy and single than miserable with someone, that’s for sure.

‘It would be fantastic to fall in love with someone wonderful, but I’ve really enjoyed the past couple of years and it’s made me realise how important it is to find someone who shares similar tastes. I think that’s because I’ve had some time to do entirely what I want to do.’

Elizabeth states that while she has had great friendships with all her exes, their break-ups made her realise that she needed to focus on other aspects of her life while in a relationship.

She said: ‘All of my boyfriends, husbands and fiancés have been my best friends, so it’s a terrible gap they leave’

She said: ‘All of my boyfriends, husbands and fiancés have been my best friends, so it’s a terrible gap they leave.

‘I think that’s when you learn the importance of having other sources of comfort, fun and intimacy.

‘You feel cosy with people that have been your best friends for 30 years, but occasionally you’ll meet someone who you click with – it’s important to keep yourself open to that.’

Elizabeth is happiest at her home in the countryside and said: ‘I spend half the day on my laptop and then I attempt to have a life.

‘When I’m there I have a ponytail, wear UGG boots, put on some Nike track pants and I’m happy.

‘When I’m home I cook or make jam – I’ve just started making marmalade – I love all that. I get so much joy from gardening; I’ve become obsessed with it. It’s the only time I switch off.’

Elizabeth also revealed the secrets behind looking so fabulous, saying: ‘I really believe in being active, but I don’t do much set exercise.

‘In the country, I walk a lot, run around a lot and do a lot of manual labour – I also love getting out with my chainsaw.

‘I still have a contract with Estèe Lauder, which is in its 24th year. Hats off to them for not disposing of women as they get older.’

Truthful: ‘People say, “Are you lonely?” and actually, I’m really not. I’d rather be happy and single than miserable with someone, that’s for sure’

Elizabeth’s most famous relationship was with Hugh Grant – the two met on the set of Spanish production Remando Al Viento in 1987, staying together for 13 years until their amicable split in 2000.

The beautiful brunette welcomed son Damian in April 2012, from her relationship with American businessman Steve Bing.

She said of her son, 16: ‘He is a joy. He has a year and a half of school left, then it’s up to him; he’ll be a proper grown-up, but with interfering Mummy in the background.

‘Since he was 13, we’ve always gone away every year to somewhere exotic, and this year we’re going on a yoga meditation retreat.

‘I think it might be quite good for an angst-ridden teenager; and it might be good to find a way to switch off.’

That same year she began dating Indian textile heir Arun Nayar, with the pair marrying in 2007.

The couple divorced in 2011 and just three months later it was revealed Elizabeth was engaged to Australian cricketer Shane Warne.

However, in December 2013 the couple called time on their relationship.

Liz recently demonstrated her friendliness with her former partners as just days ago she stepped out for dinner with ex-husband Arun.

The screen star cut a glamorous figure as she dined at Annabel’s in London, England, on Wednesday evening.

The Hampshire native’s outing comes after the beauty candidly spoke to Harper’s BAZAAR about her famous Versace at the Four Weddings and a Funeral London premiere in 1994.

Elizabeth reflected on the night she wore the dress as she admitted she was ‘unprepared’ for the impact the ensemble holds in today’s fashion industry.

While she made a bold style statement during the glitzy evening with her then-boyfriend Hugh, the Royals star confessed the process of achieving the striking look was less than glamorous.

Still close: Elizabeth recently demonstrated her friendliness with her former partners as just days ago she stepped out for dinner with ex-husband Arun

The honey-blonde beauty shared: ‘I was so unprepared for what happened that night.

‘I urgently needed to find a dress to wear for Hugh’s premiere, and in those days I had no idea about fashion.

‘I remember going to an office where they literally fished a dress out of a white plastic bag. I took it home and did my own hair and makeup, fighting Hugh for the mirror, which wasn’t even full-length, in our tiny one-bedroom flat.’

The mother-of-one added: ‘It was all very unglamorous compared to how things get done these days.’
