DWTS Pro Cheryl Burke Reveals She’s Two Years Sober

Cheryl Burke is opening up about her journey to sobriety.

The -year-old Dancing With The Stars pro is featured on LadyGang this week and revealed that she’s been sober for two years, and how with her own journey, she felt a bond with current DWTS partner, AJ McLean.

“That’s why I really wanted AJ, because I’m like, for him to be maybe partnered with someone who is just, like, still fresh in the scene [or] likes to go out, I was a little worried just as a friend in a way,” Cheryl shared. “But then I’m glad we’re partnered up together.”

Her decision to not join a support program like Alcoholics Anonymous was her own, but she was inspired by her father to stop altogether.

“My father passed away — and then my dad was an alcoholic — so either I was gonna crash and burn and check myself into rehab or I was gonna just quit cold turkey,” she shared. “That’s just my personality. It’s either black or white.”

Cheryl also noted that when she and husband, Matt Lawrence, became engaged in 2018, he didn’t know about her addiction.

“It was when Matt and I got engaged and it was during that engagement party that we were just like — or that I was like, he didn’t even know — I was just like, I was done.”

The two tied the knot in 2019. See all the details from their wedding ceremony here…
