Caroline Flack’s bitter search for love and tragedy that she never found The One

Despite playing matchmaker for countless Love Island couples, Caroline Flack's own search for The One often left her heartbroken.

The 40-year-old star, who was found dead in her London home on Valentine's Day, spoke openly about her quest for love and the ups and downs in her romantic life.

Over the years she dated a number of famous names and suffered more than her fair share of bitter heartbreaks and disappointments.

Last year she swore off men entirely, admitting she couldn't cope with any more devastation.

"Even though I’ve had ups and downs in my love life, I do still adore love," Caroline, 39, told Fabulous magazine.

"Do you know what? I don’t want to be heartbroken again. I just… can’t.

At one point she was so desperate for her happy ever after that she even offered to turn her back on TV for love.

"I did say the words 'I'll stop working, don't leave me,' [to an ex]. He was going to leave. I didn't want him to go. But he left," she previously said.

"And then I was like, why would I sacrifice everything for him? Why? Thank god I didn't give up my job!"

Here, we look back at Caroline's turbulent quest to find The One and the betrayals that broke her heart…

Lewis Burton

Caroline started dating the tennis star and model in August after meeting through mutual friends.

But just a few days after confirming their relationship, Lewis' ex-girlfriend Lauren Rose accused him of "playing" her and Caroline.

The singer-songwriter told Mirror Online she'd split with Lewis 11 weeks earlier, but claimed that as recently as two weeks before he had been asking her to go on a romantic holiday to The Maldives.

“He’s been wanting me back – asking to take me out. He’s still in love with me," she said.

Addressing his relationship with Caroline, Lauren continued, “I know it’s a rebound but that will show in time.”

At the time of her death Caroline was due to stand trial for assault by beating after an altercation with Lewis.

She pleaded not guilty to the charge.

Andrew Brady

Caroline and former Apprentice star Andrew Brady embarked on a tumultuous romance after meeting on a night out in East London.

Despite a 12-year age gap, Andrew, then 26, was spotted moving his things into Cazzer's home in early April 2018.

But a week later, she dumped him after a girl messaged her claiming to have hooked up with the reality hunk in a nightclub.

All was forgiven when she showed off a new wrist tattoo on April 13 which appeared to be the initials A.B, and he popped the question after three months.

Despite their rocky start, Caroline was in no doubt that he was the one she'd been looking for.

“People talk about meeting someone and feeling as though you’ve known them your whole life. That’s what it felt like when I met you," she wrote in an open letter to her man for Cosmopolitan magazine.

"I’ll never forget seeing you walk into the restaurant – tall, with a smile 10 miles wide, not just for me but for everyone in there," she continued, recalling how unlike with other first dates, her nerves just vanished.

"Talking to you was effortless – just two people laughing and getting to know each other until the early hours. It was how all first dates should be," she added.

But sadly the couple split while the magazine was still on shelves.

He ended up calling an ambulance to Caroline's home after a boozy row in November 2018, a move her rep branded "entirely unnecessary", explaining " paramedics found her to be in perfect health."

And in December he suddenly relocated to live a backpacker life in Australia and she confirmed they were done for good.

"I’m on my own now. So I’m sorting myself out," she told The Sun.

"You know I like him. But I think we’re both doing what we need to do at the minute. We’re both looking after our own heads and doing our own thing."

Jack Street

The sizzling star was in a serious relationship with Sam Smith's manager Jack Street from 2014 to 2015.

They moved in together but endured two nasty breakups, the first when he dumped Caroline during her Strictly Come Dancing stint after allegedly growing close to Glee actress Dianna Agron.

"Fill yourself with GLEE Jack," a furious Caroline tweeted, then deleted.

They reunited at Glastonbury in 2015 but split again just weeks later. And Caroline was devastated when singer Sam shared a picture of Jack sat next to a pretty brunette in Ibiza on her first day hosting The X Factor.

"Caroline is heartbroken to see him move on so fast," a source told The Mirror.

“She thought they could make a go of it the second time. Clearly it’s over now. This break-up has been even more acrimonious than the last. And the timing of him going public with a new girlfriend couldn't have been worse.

"She has been gearing up for the X Factor launch for months. All she wants is for it to be a success and she felt she didn't need the drama."

Harry Styles

Caroline was 32 when she hooked up with a 17-year-old Harry back in 2011.

Sparks flew as she presented spin-off show The Xtra Factor and he fought for a place in One Direction.

They dated for three months before lothario-in-training Harry announced their split on Twitter, just weeks before 1D headed off on their first US tour.

"Please know I didn't 'dump' Caroline. This was a mutual decision. She is one of the kindest, sweetest people I know," he wrote.

And despite the 15-year age gap, Caroline has always insisted there was nothing weird about their romance.

As far as she's concerned, things only got strange when everyone else started giving her gyp over it.

"I've never felt I was much older than Harry. I still feel 18 and I probably act that way half the time," she wrote in her autobiography, Storm In A C Cup.

"We were both single, we got on well and we had a laugh. It was only when it become public knowledge that things turned sour. At the beginning it was all very playful. He joked about being attracted to older women.

"It began to go wrong when he was pictured coming out of my house one morning. And that was that. People started shouting 'paedophile' at me in the street and 'pervert'."
