Ant McPartlin’s hellish year detailed in TV doc with celeb mates telling all

Ant McPartlin faces fresh anguish as an army of celebrity pals are ready to stab him in the back in a new Channel 5 show that will document his downfall.

The troubled 43-year-old star went through a ‘year of hell’ between 2017 and 2018 which saw him reveal struggles with drugs and alcohol, dump his loyal wife, Lisa Armstrong (whom he said he “put through hell”), and culminated in a court appearance where he pleaded guilty to drink driving after being involved in a car smash that left a young girl hospitalised.

Now stars including Peter Andre are lining up to share their thoughts and inside into the Geordie star’s disastrous personal life.

“This film offers insight on how Ant’s world collapsed around him and how it feels to have you personal problems played out in front of the nation,” a spokesperson for the documentary told the Daily Star.

The timing of the documentary appears to be a direct response to Ant’s imminent return to TV screens – at a time when public opinion of him is lower than ever before.

“With Ant’s comeback due to officially go public with the next series of Britain’s Got Talent, the documentary hears from celebrities with similar experiences in the media spotlight,” a Channel 5 spokesperson told the Daily Star.

“[The show] asks if Ant can successfully complete his recovery, reclaim and keep his place in one of the most successful TV partnerships of all time,” they added.

Ant’s fragile career may have taken an extra hit late last year when his shoes were effortlessly filled by Holly Willoughby on I’m A Celeb – with the show receiving higher ratings than ever achieved without him on it.

It seems 46-year-old pop star Peter Andre is more than happy to dish the dirt on Ant.

“I can’t give too much away because I don’t know what will make the final cut,” he teased in his New! magazine column.

“But it’s basically about the pressures of the industry and the trials and tribulations facing Ant following his drink-driving arrest and rehab stint,” he added.

Ant is due to make his big TV return on Britain’s Got Talent which will hit screens next month.

Last year, he returned to the show following a stint in rehab after revealing his drink and drug battles – but it was while the show was airing that he got behind the wheel of a car while drunk and was found twice over the legal limit after being involved in a car smash.
