Alex Jones: ‘Is it too late?’ Pregnant The One Show host speaks out on Meghan Markle

Alex Jones, 42, showed her competitive side in an Instagram Story post this morning when she jokingly declared she was “trying to beat” Meghan Markle, 37, by attempting to go into labour before her. The pregnant star, who recently left The One Show for her maternity leave, shared an image of raspberry leaf tea in view of her 164,000 followers. The herbal remedy, which is thought to tone the muscles of the uterus in preparation for birth, is said to help labour progress at a steady rate. After snapping a photo of the drink, Alex cheekily referenced the Duchess of Sussex, who is expecting her first child with Prince Harry, in the caption: “Trying to beat Meghan… or is it already too late?!”

The presenter appeared to suggest she believes that Meghan has already had her baby, in light of the royal couple’s decision to keep the birth private until they are ready to announce the news to the public.

Alex and Meghan’s babies are both due to be born imminently, with the Welsh TV personality expecting to give birth next month, and the former Suits star awaiting the arrival of her first child this spring.

The BBC favourite also shared an identical post on Twitter to her 234,000 followers, who flocked to the comments section to share their good luck wishes for her pregnancy.

Alex’s celebrity pal Myleene Klass, 41, replied: “Ahhh, sending you love Mama xx”

A fan then referred to Alex’s comment about Meghan, adding: “Nah mate! Meggy and Hazzer have already beat you to it.”

A second responded: “As long as your baby is delivered and you are fit and healthy it doesn’t matter about Meghan. Wishing a fantastic birth xx”

Others opted to share their own experiences with raspberry leaf tea, prompting one to recall: “I drank loads of raspberry leaf tea when I was at the end of my second pregnancy. I still was 14 days late but was only in labour for 50 mins so think it helped to have a speedy delivery. Good luck with everything x”

Another joked: “I suggest a Thai curry and Eastenders worked for me!”

Elsewhere, Alex filmed her final episode of The One Show last week before embarking on her maternity leave.

The BBC favourite, who is pregnant with her second baby, received a sweet parting gift from her colleagues live on air.

Alex beamed with glee as she was presented with a seat which had been named after her on the iconic Snowdon Mountain Railway in Wales.

She also became slightly emotional during her last appearance alongside co-host Matt Baker, 41, who admitted her departure from the show felt “odd.”

The Countryfile presenter told Alex: “It’s going to be odd. No seriously, it’s going to be weird with you watching with a little viewer.”

The expectant mother agreed: “It’ll be odd but it’ll go quick. I’ll be back in the autumn. Keep the seat warm.”

The two then started to say their goodbyes, with Matt admitting: “It goes without saying, I’m going to miss you.”

Alex tried to fight back tears as she responded: “I’m going to miss you. Don’t make me cry.”

The One Show airs weekdays at 7pm on BBC One.
