UK weather forecast – Sunshine and highs of 20C today before thunderstorms hit on the weekend

BRITS are set to enjoy sunshine and highs of 20C today – but the glorious weather won’t last long as thunderstorms could hit this weekend.

Met Office forecasters warned there could be some showers in the far north and west of both Scotland and Northern Ireland.

But the majority of the country will be dry with sunny skies.

Stornoway in western Scotland could see highs of 20C and Glasgow will enjoy a balmy 19C, whereas London will see temperatures of around 16C.

The glorious blue skies and warm weather won't stay for long, as thunderstorms are expected to roll in over the weekend.

Weather forecasters predict high temperatures will continue until Friday – when thermometers will take a dip once again.

There will be a mix of sunshine and showers throughout the weekend, with some turning thundery and heavy at times.

From Monday forecasters say there is a risk of longer spells of heavy rain and thunderstorms across the south, as the "changeable" weather lasts all of next week.

Met Office maps for the week ahead show temperatures reaching the low- to mid-20s – with the area between Glasgow and Edinburgh seeing highs of 23C.

The east of England will be a little cooler with highs of only 14C-16C – but skies should be clear and bright.

The Met Office has also said UV levels are high across the UK this week.
