Two fighting for life and another injured after being pulled from water near Clacton Pier in Essex

TWO people are fighting for their lives and a third is injured after three people were pulled from the sea in Essex today.

Emergency services were scrambled to the scene after the three got into trouble in the water near Clacton Pier around 1.40pm.

All three people were being treated on the beach at the popular seaside destination.

The two in a critical condition are children and the third person is believed to be a woman, according to some reports.

Three air ambulances are at the scene, Essex Live reports.

It is not yet known what caused the three people to get in to difficulties.

BEACH EMERGENCY

An off-duty fireman performed CPR on one casualty for 25 minutes, according to one local report.

One person tweeted: "What’s happening in clacton on sea? Three police cars and 4 ambulance and two first responders? All running on emergency lights in convoy."

The emergency has sparked large traffic congestion in Clacton-on-Sea.

An Essex Police spokesman posted on Facebook: "Emergency services were called around 1.40pm today, Thursday 8 August, to reports that three people were recovered from the water near to #Clacton Pier and were being treated on the beach.

"Ambulance, Coastguard and police are in attendance and the three casualties are still being treated.

"Two of the three remain in a critical condition. We will provide more updates when we are position to do so."

A Coastguard spokesman said: "HM Coastguard is currently assisting Essex Police with an incident at Clacton on Sea.

"Clacton and Walton Coastguard Rescue Teams along with Clacton RNLI lifeboat have been sent to the scene."
