A teacher has touched the hearts of thousands after she was filmed carrying her students across a flooded crossing in south China. 

The female teacher, surnamed Li, was seen carrying at least eight schoolchildren one by one in ankle-deep waters on Monday in Zhuhai, Guangdong province in the rain.  

A parent, who was passing by, joined in and helped her carry the rest of the primary school students across the road.

‘It was raining very heavily that day and the road was flooded. If the children walked across themselves, they would have gotten their pants and feet wet,’ Ms Li told Guangdong Television

Footage captured by traffic cameras shows the group of children, holding umbrellas, waiting near a junction in the rain at about 2pm as the city’s meteorological service issued a yellow rain alert on the day. 

The kind-hearted teacher, dressed in black, was seen gesturing the children to stay put while she carries them one by one across the flooded road.   

Several minutes later, the parent saw the group and helped the teacher carry some of the children across. 

The pair were filmed wading through the water back and forth for about 20 minutes.

‘It was raining very heavily that day and the road was flooded. If the children walked across themselves, they would have gotten their pants and feet wet,’ Ms Li later told Guangdong Television in an interview. 

‘A kind parent helped me carry the children. He saw that I was struggling in the end as I was getting tired from carrying all of them!’ she added.  

Net users praised the pair’s actions on social media. 

‘Such a heart-warming incident,’ one user commented on Chinese microblogging site Weibo. 

‘There are still good people in this world,’ another person said. 

‘Respect for the teacher and the parent – a big thumbs up for them both!’ one person said.
