Oklahoma man caught with rattlesnake and radioactive uranium

Oklahoma authorities were stunned last month when they pulled over a car and discovered an open bottle of whiskey, a rattlesnake and a canister of radioactive uranium, according to KOCO.

A Guthrie police officer reportedly stopped Stephen Jennings, 41, on June 25, when he noticed the car Jennings was driving had an expired tag. Law enforcement soon learned that the man’s driver license had been suspended and the vehicle he had been driving had been stolen.

Jennings then allegedly admitted to cops that he had a firearm in the center console and a timber rattlesnake in an aquarium in the back seat. A search confirmed his claim and turned up a nearly full open bottle of Kentucky Deluxe whiskey, along with a silver canister containing a yellow powdery substance.

“The canister advised that the yellow in color powdery substance was uranium,” the police report stated.

A crew from the Emergency Management Institute later arrived and verified that the substance was radioactive, the station said. Police confiscated the canister and arrested Jennings and his passenger Racheal Rivera.

Jennings was charged with a felony count of possession of a stolen vehicle, and misdemeanor counts of transporting an open container of liquor, operating a motor vehicle with a suspended driver’s license and failure to carry a security verification form. Rivera was charged with possession of firearm after a prior felony conviction.
