Beaglemania! More than 1,000 owners of the dog breed break record for biggest ever combined walk in huge meeting at Merseyside park

  • A huge 1,029 beagles from across the country took part in the Merseyside walk
  • Pet owner Sean Parkinson, 39, set up Facebook groups to bring people to event
  • Their walk smashed the previous record, which was set by 783 Yorkshire Terriers

The Guinness World Record for the biggest single-breed dog walk has officially been broken after more than 1,000 Beagles were brought together for a stroll.

Pet owner Sean Parkinson, 39, organised the ‘Beaglelandia’ event which saw 1,029 beagles from across the country gather in a Merseyside park.

Their walk smashed the previous record, which was set by 783 Yorkshire Terriers in Mexico. That record was organised by Yorkimania, the self-proclaimed biggest Yorkies club in Mexico and Latin America.

The pet owners walked their dogs for about a mile together in a Merseyside park last year

Beaglelandia’s attempt from last April has now received official confirmation from the Guinness World Records that they are the new holders of the ‘largest single-breed dog walk’ record.

Mr Parkinson, from Wirral in Merseyside, said: ‘I’m over the moon. I couldn’t believe it, to be honest.

‘It’s such a brilliant thing for us to achieve – and we had a great day doing it.

‘People came from all over the UK with their beagles, including one person who even got on the ferry from Ireland.

‘We made a proper event of it, setting up stalls and lots of fun things to do. It was great.’

Beaglelandia took place at the Capesthrone Hall in Cheshire. The participating record-holders walked their animals around one mile together for the walk.

The event was organised along with the Merseyside Beagle Club to help raise money for beagle charities.

Mr Parkinson, who brought his five-year-old beagle Chilli on the walk, admitted it had been a difficult task trying to break the previous record.

He said: ‘We actually tried for two years, as we had previously tried in 2017 to break the record for largest single-breed dog walk – but we just missed out on it that year.’

‘The beagle community is quite big. We actually opened another Facebook group to reach out beyond Merseyside.’

Dog owners had to bring proof of breeding and age of their animals to the event, all of which was then passed onto experts at Guinness

Dog owners had to bring proof of breeding and age of their animals to the event, all of which was then passed onto experts at Guinness.

Just last Monday, the organisation officially ratified the record’s legitimacy.

Mr Parkinson said: ‘It normally only takes about 15 weeks to confirm a world record, but because Guinness is so strict, they wanted to make sure it was all done properly.’

Schoolteacher Abigial Henshall, who brought her two beagles Roxy and Harley on the walk, said it was ‘very special’ to have been involved.

The 35-year-old dog owner said: ‘It is a special thing to say you have been part of a world record, not many people can say that.

‘There were people from all over the country, some had booked into hotels and there were beagles as far as the eye can see.

‘It must have been a massive undertaking for organisers, but it was an amazing event.’

A spokesman for the Guinness Book of Records confirmed the Beaglelandia event, in Cheshire, organised by Merseyside Beagle Club had successfully broken the world record.

It has taken several months to officially ratify, but April’s beagle dog walk was officially made a Guiness world record last year
