'Knifeman' Tasered after 'waving huge machete' in front of terrified commuters at South London train station

Cops Tasered the man before he was restrained and arrested on suspicion of attempted murder on the platform of Tulse Hill commuter station in South London.


Horrified witnesses described "woman screaming" after a man was seen waving the blade on the platform during rush hour.

One commuter took to social media to post a picture of a man being held down by several officers at 6.30pm.

He wrote on Twitter: "Man at Tulse Hill Station with a massive machete just been tasered by the police."

The man was described as pacing up and down the platform ranting while carrying the huge blade before police arrived and subdued him.

Another added: "Just at Tulse Hill Station where the guy was wielding a machete – he's been subdued by the police, I don't believe anyone was hurt. Massive thank you and well done to the Police."

Another witness added "women (are) screaming" and "the station (is) in small chaos."

One commuter said his train didn't stop at the station due to reports of a "dangerous man".

A spokesman for the British Transport Police said: "Shortly after 6.30pm officers from British Transport Police and the Metropolitan Police were called to Tulse Hill station after reports of a man in possession of a knife.

"Police officers were quickly on scene and detained a man on the platforms at the station. During the detainment a Taser device was discharged.

"The man was arrested on suspicion of attempted murder and possession of an offensive weapon, he is being taken to custody. There are no reported injuries."

This incident is not currently believed to be terror related.

The incident comes just a week after a father was stabbed to death in front of his 14-year-old son on a train travelling near London.
