Ex-Apprentice host Nick Hewer ditches Labour party after Countdown star Rachel Riley abused for calling out anti-Semitism

The lifelong Labour voter said he would "not any more" back Jeremy Corbyn's party, and blasted the assaults which were fired at his friend.

He wrote on Twitter this morning: "As an Anglo-Irish lapsed Catholic, raises to abhor bigotry, I am astonished at the blunt assaults and trickster arguments fired at my friend and colleague Rachel Riley for calling out anti-Semitism in that once great Labour party which I have voted for since 1964.

"Not anymore."

Rachel, 32, has repeatedly called out anti-Semitism on Twitter in the past – and yesterday posted a photo of a graffiti-ed wall where thugs had written 'Jew ghetto'.

And today she thanked Nick, who used to be an adviser for Lord Sugar, for "standing shoulder to shoulder with me" to call our bullying and anti-Semitism.

She said online that her aim was to "expose them as the vile racists that they are for all to see".

Earlier this week she into a row with the Secretary of Hackney South Labour Party Heather Mendick on Twitter, when Rachel claimed activist and author Noam Chomsky was anti-Semitic.

She claimed this was because he'd written about theories arguing the Holocaust didn't happen – and defended the author of them.

And since then people who say they support the Labour leader have blasted her.

One wrote that she was "basically a teeth, t**s and ass clothes horse doll bird."

Another said she "clearly had an agenda".

One person said: "Rachel Riley is not calling out antisemitism, she is blowing things way out of proportion in an effort to undermine @jeremycorbyn.

"If she was genuine about tackling hate crime she would have called out Tory Islamophobia which I have pointed out to her several times."

But she refused to be silenced after getting hate-filled messages.
She wrote: "Much as I appreciate being called Tory, brainwashed and thick, I don’t have any party loyalties, I form my opinions based on available evidence.

"Religion wise, I choose Man United. Life wise I choose the options without intolerance, hatred and fear. #AntiSemitism."

She added: "I want to live my normal life, this isn’t fun, it’s potentially dangerous and not a clever career move.

"I don’t care what politics you choose, I really don’t, that’s up to you. But this situation needs handling.

"The cries of smear need to stop. And the victim blaming needs to end."

The Labour party has been approached for comment.
