Baffled seagull pecks at window as he tries to eat the pizza inside

Hilarious moment baffled seagull pecks at a bar window as he tries to eat a slice of pizza inside

  • The seagull was filmed trying to reach the leftovers at a bar in Göteborg, Sweden
  • It frantically pecks at the pane of glass much to the amusement of the customers
  • Research found that gulls do not touch food when a person makes eye contact

A clueless seagull was spotted trying to eat a slice of pizza through a glass window.

The amusing footage was captured by a customer at a bar in Göteborg, Sweden.

The large bird can be seen outside the pane of glass eyeing up a crust of pizza that has been dropped on the wooden floor.

It cautiously approaches the leftover before trying to grab it with its beak but soon discovers that the pizza is actually behind a window.

It bangs its beak repeatedly and shakes the glass as its frantic effort to get hold of the tasty snack continues.

The customers inside the bar giggle at its furious attempts to retrieve it.

After a short while it stops pecking at the glass and looks around inquisitively.

It makes the decision to walk away from the fruitless endeavour despite being tantalisingly close.

Seagulls are notoriously greedy birds and only recently a video emerged of another seagull in Newport, Oregon, swallowing an entire apple slice in one gulp.

Others have also been pictured stealing holidaymaker’s ice cream in seaside towns across the country including on Whitby Pier.

To keep the large marine birds from stealing snacks it is best to stare directly at them, according to recent studies.

The research found that almost a third of gulls do not touch food when a person was making eye contact but would when they looked away.

HOW CAN I STOP SEAGULLS STEALING MY FOOD?

A study from researchers at the University of Exeter has identified a number of techniques for stopping seagulls from stealing food at the seaside.

It found that out of 74 gulls, more than 60 per cent would avoid approaching a bag of chips if a human was nearby.

The study also found that just 19 would approach the food when someone was looking at them – and six of them would be too scared to take the chips.

Hiding out of sight or eating indoors is also an option to stop food theft.

Birds may be intimidated if you wave your arms to scare them away.
