X Factor 2019: EastEnders star speaks out on signing-up to celebrity series

Earlier this year, Simon Cowell revealed The X Factor would return to screens but in a different format to the usual civilian series.

Although an official announcement is yet to be made, Simon has said fans can expect two series of the show this year.

Ever since the music mogul declared the show would be undergoing a change, rumours have been swirling about which celebrities could take on the challenge.

Now, soap star Laurie Brett has spoken out on whether she’d consider signing up to the ITV show.

I don’t think it’s something I’d look to do again

The Jane Beale has already impressed fans with her singing skills as she won the celebrity special of All Together Now last year.

But now the actress has suggested she wouldn’t want to repeat a similar experience.

Speaking exclusively to Express.co.uk, Laurie divulged: “I think because I’ve already done the All Together Now thing, that was more personal, that was for me.

“I hope it’s a great success and I’m sure some people will really surprise the public and I think I’ve kind of done that so I don’t think it’s something…I’m not involved in it and I don’t think it’s something I’d look to do again.”

“Unless they offered me more money than I could refuse!” she laughed. “Then I’d repeat it, then I’d do another singing show!”

“I think I’ve kind of ticked that box and as I say, it was very personal for me to do it the last time,” Laurie continued.

Last year’s instalment of the X Factor saw the programme hit an all time low when it came to ratings.

Subsequently, Simon revealed there would be an overhaul to the singing competition.

He told The Sun: “The time feels right, and it will be a huge change. We haven’t exactly confirmed the dates or the order of the shows, but essentially there are going to be two versions of X Factor running this year.

“I think it’s going to be huge, it’s the best I’ve felt about this show in years.”

Plenty of names have been tipped to sign up to the revamped contest.

The stars rumoured to be featuring include David Walliams, Megan McKenna, Jenny “The Vixen” Ryan, John Barrowman and a Love Island supergroup.

Reality TV icon Gemma Collins, who appeared alongside Laurie on the All Together Now special, is also said to be a potential contestant.

An insider told The Daily Star: “We want big and exciting stars and The GC is popular and we reckon she makes entertaining viewing.

“Simon has handled many divas over the years with the likes of Sharon Osbourne and Mel B, so we reckon he will be able to deal with this Essex one.”

The X Factor is expected to return to ITV later this year.
