Women’s Aid issue statement over Joe’s behaviour towards Lucie on Love Island

Lucie Donlan and Joe Garratt were one of the earliest couples to form on this year’s series of Love Island.

After being stuck in love triangle between Joe and boxer Tommy Fury, Lucie finally hedged her bets on the sandwich enthusiast and decided to officially couple up with him.

The pair then took their relationship up-a-notch a week into being in the villa, deciding to become “half boyfriend and girlfriend” the same day fellow Islanders Amy Hart and Curtis Pritchard did.

But it certainly hasn’t been an easy ride for the pair.

The duo have been bickering a lot recently over Lucie’s close friendship with boxer Tommy.

Lucie, who admits she prefers the company of guys to girls, said to Joe she didn’t understand why he had a problem with her spending lots of time with Tommy.

But Joe retorted that he found it “strange”

He remarked: “I’m not happy with it. It’s strange. I think it’s time for you to get close with the girls.”

This came after Joe said after being in the villa for two days that he’d “lost trust” in the surfer babe over her going on a date with Tommy initially.

Amy warned Lucie that this behaviour sparked a “red flag”.

Love Island viewers haven’t been happy about Joe’s behaviour towards her and Ofcom has received 302 complaints so far over the way the Islanders have treated Lucie, according to The Sun.

“Controlling behaviour is never acceptable, and with Love Island viewers complaining to Ofcom in record numbers about Joe’s possessive behaviour towards Lucie, more people are becoming aware of this and want to challenge it,” Adina Claire, Co-Chief Executive of Women’s Aid, said.

“Abusive relationships often start off with subtle signs of control, so it’s important that it is recognised at an early stage.

“Love Island viewers are now very vocal in calling out unhealthy behaviour between couples on the show, and this is a positive development.”

A Love Island spokesman told Daily Star Online: “We take the emotional well-being of all the Islanders extremely seriously.
