Who are the Oscars 2019 presenters?

But now the once shaky future of the annual ceremony has been secured. Here's who'll be taking over presenting duties…

Who are the Oscars 2019 presenters?

The Academy confirmed that the Oscars will go ahead without a host later this month.

In a sit down chat with the Television Critics Association, ABC Entertainment president Karey Burke

said the idea of a hostless ceremony made her nervous at first.

But added: "It no longer does. Ironically, I have found that the lack of clarity around the Oscars has kept them in the conversation. The mystery is really compelling. People really care.”

The last time the ceremony went ahead without a host was in 1989, with a painful opening number featuring Rob Lowe dueting with aspiring actress Eileen Bowman dressed as Snow White.

It turns out a host of stars will fill in for the host by presenting segments throughout the show.

Among those announced so far are:

  • Awkwafina – The Crazy Rich Asians breakout star will no doubt use her comic skills to inject a bit of humour into the event
  • Daniel Craig – What Academy Awards would be complete without its very own Bond? The 007 star will also take his turn presenting a segment of the show
  • Chris Evans – And of course, Captain America needed to make an appearance at the American film industry's biggest annual awards ceremony
  • Tina Fey – Funnywoman and Mean Girls star Tina will also be using her comic skills to keep the audience entertained
  • Whoopi Goldberg – Along with Ghost star and Academy Award winner Whoopi Goldberg
  • Brie Larson – Whoopi will be in good company with fellow Academy Award winner Brie Larson
  • Jennifer Lopez – All-round performer J-Lo – as she's affectionately known to fans – will take to the stage as she knows best
  • Amy Poehler – Amy will be joining her former SNL castmate and pal Tina Fey on the Oscars stage
  • Maya Rudolph – As will fellow SNL alumni Maya who will likely have the crowd in stitches
  • Amandla Stenberg – Hunger Games star Amandla, at just 20-years-old, is so far the youngest star confirmed to be presenting
  • Charlize Theron – This time round Oscar-winner Charlize will be taking to the stage to present, not receive, an award
  • Tessa Thompson – The Creed actress will also take on some of the hosting responsibilities
  • Constance Wu – Constance is the second Crazy Rich Asians star confirmed to be presenting a segment of the event.

From the look of the list so far, the women seem to be dominating the presenting duties.

With only two men – Daniel Craig and Chris Evans – being confirmed out of the thirteen stars.

Why did Kevin Hart quit hosting the 2019 Oscars?

On December 7, 2018, Kevin Hart announced on Twitter that he had stood down as the host of the Academy Awards amid controversy over his alleged homophobic tweets.

Hart, 39 – who had previously described the gig as a "dream come true" – had earlier refused to apologise for the tweets, saying he had already addressed the issues.

But as the controversy continued to mount, the 39-year-old tweeted that he did not want the alleged offensive posts to be a "distraction on the night".

Hart wrote: "I sincerely apologise to the LGBTQ community for my insensitive words from my past."
