Where is Gail Rodwell and is she coming back to Coronation Street?

Things have been getting steadily worse for Gail Rodwell (Helen Worth) in Coronation Street in recent weeks, as her problems have slowly spiralled out of control.

And things reached a peak on Monday night’s show when, after being rejected on all sides by both David Platt (Jack P Shepherd) and Nick Tilsley (Ben Price), as well as by Audrey Roberts (Sue Nicholls), Gail suddenly went missing, leaving daughter Sarah Platt (Tina O’Brien) very concerned.

It’s no surprise that things had become too much for her in the wake of David and Nick’s court hearing, and them being sent to jail after breaching their bail conditions – but where has she gone, exactly?

And more importantly, is she coming back?

Here’s what you need to know…

Where is Gail Rodwell in Coronation Street?

Monday night’s show saw Sarah becoming increasingly worried at Gail’s non-appearance as Sally (Sally Dynevor) attempted to reassure her.

However the character’s whereabouts finally became known to viewers at the very end of Monday night’s double episode – when it transpired that she was about to board a plane to Bangkok.

The scene saw the character sitting in an airport lounge as a waiter served her champagne, telling him: ‘Today is the first day of the rest of my life.’

She subsequently stood up and made for the departure gate as her flight was called, repeating to herself what she had just said.

Is Gail Rodwell coming back to Coronation Street?

Since there’s been no suggestion that Helen Worth is leaving the show or Gail is leaving the cobbles for good, it’s likely that Gail will be persuaded to return to Weatherfield, and that the character is just taking a break.

Still, it’s no surprise that Gail needs one after everything she’s had to contend with of late.

Last week’s episodes saw her attempt to deal with David and Nick’s issues with a family meeting – but after breaching their bail conditions they ended up behind bars.

And she wasn’t exactly made to feel welcome when she went to visit the pair of them, with Nick later calling her to tell her to stay away as she always made things worse.

Things have also been frosty between her and Audrey after she supported her sons in their court case – which is understandable, given they are on trial for stealing from her.

And Sarah wasn’t too pleased with her mum on Monday night either, for taking Harry into a prison visiting room.

It’s enough to make anyone want to get away, really – but we’ll have to keep watching to see when she decides to come back.

Coronation Street airs Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays on ITV at 7.30pm.
