When does The One Show's Alex Jones go on maternity leave, who will replace her and how much is she paid by the BBC?

ALEX Jones is expected to give birth to her second child this spring.

And with a planned hiatus coming up for The One Show co-host, fans are eager to know who will replace the 42-year-old on the BBC programme, when she'll go on maternity leave and how much she earns. Find out below…

When is Alex Jones' baby due?

The TV host confirmed her pregnancy on The One Show on December 10 2018.

Alex hasn't revealed when her baby is due exactly, but it's rumoured to be in the spring.

Typically, most mothers share their baby news after reaching the 12 mark upon being told that their little one is in good health.

If Alex was around 12 weeks pregnant when she decided to announce it, this would mean her baby is due in June.

The One Show host admitted she was undecided about when to share her pregnancy news at first, however, after her belly "popped", she decided to tell her fans.

It's not yet known whether Alex will be having a boy or girl as she has chosen not to find out the gender of the baby until she gives birth.

But she has spoken out about her anxieties of being a mother-of-two.

The One Show host made the confession during a candid chat with Guide Dogs' new series podcast, called I see What You're Saying.

She said: "Everybody has nerves about being a mum and being a parent.

"Pregnancy for any woman is a period of excitement, but also slightly terrifying as you don't know what to expect. Even with your second it's like: 'How am I going to do two?'

"My mum was amazing at the beginning when we first had Teddy, for the first three weeks – thankfully. I don't know how we would have done it without her."

Speaking to pregnant Libby Clegg MBE, she said: "There's a lot of talk about post natal depression at the beginning, it can affect anyone of us.

"It is a horrible, horrible feeling because you should be feeling this incredible joy and you just feel like everything is so hard and it's never going to end.

"I remember day 3 and day 4 after having the baby…. It's the baby blues and it does happen.

"You feel like it's just you at the time but you talk to other mums and you find it's really common. It passes and things get better. It gets easier. It does."

When does Alex go on maternity leave?

Alex is yet to confirm an exact date for her maternity leave but with her due date approaching it's expected to be soon.

Angela Scanlon replaced Alex during her first maternity leave so it could be that she steps in again this time.

And on April 14 she let slip on Channel 4's Sunday Brunch show that she would be covering, revealing:

"I’m actually on The One Show tomorrow as a guest on the other side and yes I will be sitting in for her [when she goes on maternity leave]."

Who is temporarily replacing Alex Jones when she goes on maternity leave?

On February 22nd we exclusively revealed that The Greatest Dancer’s Oti Mabuse is being lined up to fill in for Alex while on maternity leave.

In an exclusive interview, she said: “They said to me, ‘How would you feel about working on The One Show?’

“And I thought they initially meant somewhere behind the camera. They were like, ‘No, to present!’

“Before they had even finished the sentence I said, ‘Yes, whatever you want! Yes, don’t worry, I will make it work!’ They left the room and I dropped to the floor and screamed at the top of my voice.

“I couldn’t believe it was happening.”

She fronted her first show on March 8 alongside Alex. Bosses will then decide whether Oti joins co-host Matt Baker on a regular basis while Alex is away.

Who is Alex Jones' husband Charlie Thomson?

Charlie is a successful insurance broker who Alex met at a party in 2011.

He is originally from New Zealand and the pair married at Cardiff Castle on New Year's Eve in 2015.

Alex's husband stays out of the limelight, but she frequently posts pics of the pair to her Instagram page.

The couple welcomed their first child into the world on January 22, 2017.

Alex then explained that their son would be known by the moniker Teddy.

How much does Alex Jones earn?

The BBC revealed its “talent list” which showcases its high-earners bringing in more than £150,000 on July 19, 2017.

Salaries of the corporation's top earners were released so licence fee payers can know where their money is going.

However, the BBC came under fire for the large gender pay gap among their employees with Chris Evans earning £2.2million a year – four times more than its highest paid woman, Claudia Winkleman.

Only a third of its top earners are women, sparking an equality row which Director-General Tony Hall has vowed to address.

Alex is listed as earning between £400,000–£449,999 while her co-host Matt Baker is in the next pay grade earning £450,000-£499,999.

What is Alex Jones' book about?

Alex published her first book on Thursday, April 5, 2018.

It charts her experiences of being a first-time mum at 40 and it's called Winging It! A Survival Guide For New Mums which looks over the difficulties of parenting in later life.

It's supposed to be quite fun and entertaining, Jones says it's going to offer "surprising facts that nobody tells you" whilst making sure you laugh along too!
