Viscountess Weymouth Emma Thynn announced as eighth Strictly Come Dancing name

Emma Thynn has been unveiled as the eighth celebrity to join the Strictly Come Dancing 2019 line-up.

Emma – who has the aristocratic title of Viscountess Weymouth – is a chef, model and philanthropist who is married to Caewlin Thynn, also known as Viscount Weymouth.

Speaking about her decision to sign up for Strictly, 33-year-old Emma told Gaby Roslin on BBC London: "I am so excited, just hearing the theme tune then has set my heart racing. It's unbelievable, I'm so excited."

Emma added: "I honestly wasn't allowed to tell anyone, I told my husband and asked him to please keep it a secret and that was it. I told my family and sons last night, it's the most amazing news."

She went on: "Honestly I don't know what to expect it's such an institution, I've watched it for years and years. To work with such an incredible team of passionate people… I can't wait."

The mother of two made history by becoming the first black woman in line to become marchioness when her father-in-law Alexander the seventh Marquess of Bath dies.

Emma and Ceawlin share a 12-year age gap and met when she was a child at his family estate Longleat, where the couple would eventually marry.

Ceawlin's parents both boycotted their wedding, opting instead to go to another high society wedding on the same day.

Lord Bath took offence to his son removing murals he'd handpainted at the family home, while Lady Bath, who used to star in erotic films under the stage name Anna Gaël, objected to her son's choice of wife for more disturbing reasons.

Ceawlin told the Sunday Times in 2015 that his mother had said on three different occasions that him marrying Emma would affect "400 years of bloodline" – something Lady Bath denied saying, insisting she isn't a racist.

"Emma is the least confrontational, least dramatic person, but I don't think anyone could have that happen at least three times and not just say, 'Well, f**k this,'" Ceawlin added at the time.

Emma joins a host of famous faces looking forward to getting stuck in to the glitz and glamour of Strictly.

CBBC presenter Karim Zeroual, BBC sports presenter Mike Bushell and former Coronation Street actress Catherine Tyldesley have also signed up, joining YouTube star Saffron Barker, comedian Chris Ramsey, EastEnders star Emma Barton and ex-England goalie David James.
