'The Bachelor': How Tayshia Knew Colton Wasn't Going to Pick Her in the End

Colton Underwood’s season of The Bachelor was full of shocking twists and turns (we’ll never forget the infamous fence jump, for example). There were plenty of beautiful, amazing women Colton could’ve fallen for, but in the end, Cassie Randolph won his affection. The two are totally in love now and most likely getting married in the future, but fans were still left wondering how the final two remaining girls, Hannah G. and Tayshia, took the heartbreak.

As Bachelor fans know, there was no final rose ceremony for Colton and the ladies. Instead, he broke up with Tayshia and Hannah G. one-on-one and ignored the show’s setup completely by the end. Tayshia was certainly heartbroken by the surprise breakup, but it seems she knew Colton likely wasn’t going to pick her to be his fiancée. Here’s why.

Tayshia was falling in love with Colton, but she knew they needed more time

Colton may have picked Cassie in the end, but there’s no doubt he and Tayshia had a special connection. From skydiving to bungee jumping to taking helicopter rides together, the two adrenaline junkies pushed each other in new and exciting ways that also helped their romance blossom. Colton mentioned he was falling in love with Tayshia, and Tayshia also mentioned she was completely falling for Colton, too. Unfortunately, the two could’ve surely benefitted from more one-on-one time away from the cameras, and Tayshia was totally cognizant of this.

As Tayshia told Entertainment Tonight, “I saw such a real side of him when we were alone, without cameras, without our mic packs on, and I just felt like if he needed to say something more to my face that he didn’t want to say to the cameras, he was going to.” She also mentioned that while the breakup deeply upset her, it was her natural instinct to comfort Colton at the time, as he was also torn up about hurting her in the end.

The fantasy suites are the perfect time for The Bachelor and the remaining leading ladies to get some alone time away from the camera crew. And while many of the fantasy suite dates seem picture-perfect, fans could tell Tayshia’s special night with Colton may not have gone exactly according to plan. As she told Entertainment Tonight, “I just felt something was off [in our fantasy suite]. I think you saw it on my face the morning after the fantasy suite, I was a little hesitant.”

While the breakup may not have come as a total shock to Tayshia, she was certainly still hurt with the way things ended. “I guess I just don’t understand exactly what was missing,” she told Colton during the season finale after recounting how the two pushed each other to be the best versions of themselves. “I tried to remain as open as I could in other relationships for as long as I could,” Colton told her. But he then mentioned that his “heart was closed off” to Tayshia once he realized he was totally in love with Cassie.

Did she want to be The Bachelorette?

Tayshia remained cool, calm, and collected when Colton broke things off. And while she was certainly saddened by the event, she maturely was able to quickly move forward with her life and enjoy all that Portugal had to offer with Hannah G. As she told Vulture, “I slept a lot, I ate a lot, I cried a lot. I took a lot of walks around the resort. It was a lot of me time. And obviously I drank a lot of wine. A lot of wine. It was well-deserved.” And at the end of the day, she’s not upset with Colton for not falling in love with her, as Tayshia believes everything happens for a reason. “I pray about everything that happens in my life, especially big decisions, and if it was meant to be, it would’ve happened. The same with Colton. I’m okay with it,” she said.

We know Hannah Brown is the next Bachelorette, but it seems Tayshia was up for nomination, too. Would she have wanted the opportunity? “It would’ve been really, really nice to get The Bachelorette, but I’m really happy with where I’m at,” she told Vulture. As for where we can see her next, perhaps fans will get to watch her on Bachelor in Paradise.
