Strictly Come Dancing 2019 line-up: Huw Edwards opens up on joining show

Strictly Come Dancing fans are itching to know who will be joining the ballroom floor this year.

The 2019 line-up is being kept a closely-guarded secret but there’s usually a BBC newsreader in the mix.

Following on from his BAFTA win last night, Huw Edwards was quizzed about whether he would be up for a stint on Strictly.

The newsreader told press including Express.co.uk he had no immediate plans, but would never say never to the show.

He said: “I’d have a conversation about it. I think in all honesty I think it’s a difficult thing to do in my day-to-day job.

“Thats the strongest hint I can give you.”

The BBC stalwart continued: “Combined with being BBC’s chief news anchor would be quite difficult.

“In future, when my professional life might be in a different shape, maybe it would look like a different kind of challenge.

“Am I terrified by the thought of it? Yes. Do my kids want me to do it? No. All of these are different kinds of factors aren’t they?”

Huw added: “The honest answer is I’ve not been asked but if I was asked I think my current job would make it quite difficult.

“That’s probably more honest than I should have been.”

Last night at the BAFTA TV Awards, Huw Edwards bagged the award for Live Event along with the team behind Royal British Legion Festival of Remembrance.

At the ceremony, Tess Daly was left mortified as Graham Norton made a big Strictly swipe.

In the opening speech from Graham, he took aim at a number of people and the whole thing left Tess squirming.

While discussing Line of Duty, the host found a surprising link to Strictly Come Dancing.

He said: “The interviews! They were incredible.

A more forensically detailed interrogation of times, dates, and mobile phone data hasn’t been seen since that time Seann Walsh got home late from Strictly practice.”

The camera flashed onto Tess and co-host Claudia Winkleman and it was the former who closed her eyes and shook her head.

Graham teased: “I know, I know! Yep, you snog one dancer!”

Strictly Come Dancing will return later this year.
