Strictly bosses 'caught by surprise' by Darcey Bussell's out of the blue exit

Reflecting on Darcey’s legacy, Anton added: ‘She’s wonderful on the show and I know when she joined it was a great coup and I think everybody was delighted about it, having someone of her gravitas just added to the show.

‘It just added to the quality.’

There’s no word yet on who will be taking over Darcey’s role on the show, however lots of names have been floating around.

Insiders have revealed to The Sun that producers are considering making Carlos Acosta a £400,000 offer to replace the ballerina, saying: ‘Carlos is a huge name in the dance world and has been on Strictly’s radar for a long time.’

Strictly winner and former Olympic gymnast Louis Smith has thrown his name into the ring to and would ‘definitely consider it’ if bosses came knocking on his door.

Oti Mabuse, on the other hand, has ruled out filling the position because she doesn’t want to leave the professionals.

Strictly Come Dancing is set to return to the BBC later this year.
