Steve Martin Appears On ‘SNL’ As Roger Stone Following Trump Confidante’s Arrest

Leave it to Saturday Night Live to put a comedic spin on the political zeitgeist at lightning fast speeds.

This week, iconic comedian Steve Martin made a surprise appearance on the show to impersonate Roger Stone, pro Instagrammer and Donald Trump’s longtime adviser — and they couldn’t have chosen a better actor to portray the “feeble old man.”

Stone was arrested early Friday morning after an FBI raid at his home. He was subsequently slapped with a seven-count indictment, with charges including witness tampering, obstruction of an official proceeding, and issuing false statements to Congress about his involvement with Trump’s presidential campaign. Naturally, SNL writers had a field day with this, which resulted in a hilarious cold open come Saturday night.

The show’s opening sketch was a parody of Tucker Carlson Tonight. Comedian Alex Moffat portrayed the Fox News host.

“Our final story this week, of course, is the dramatic, and some would say ludicrous arrest of long-time Trump associate, Roger Stone,” said Moffat’s Carlson as he introduced Martin’s Stone. “The man is 66 years old, frail, barely able to post shirtless photos of his jacked body. Clearly no threat to anyone. Here with his side of the story is a man you look at and instantly think, ‘I trust this guy!'”

“What a fun couple of days,” said Martin as Stone. “I’m loving the ride. Go Nixon!” The real Stone is known as a Nixon fanboy. He reportedly has a tattoo of Nixon’s face on his back. Considering Nixon went down in history as one of the world’s most notorious liars, we can’t say we’re surprised Stone idolizes him.

Martin’s Stone didn’t appear distraught about his arrest.

“Honestly, I think I’m in the happiest I’ve ever been in my life!” he exclaimed. “I mean, seven felonies, one, two — I can’t even count that high! How cool is that?”

But Moffat’s Carlson was quick to turn the situation around and make it seem like Stone was a struggling man in desperate need of help. “Mr. Stone,” he said, “what I think you’re really trying to say is that you’re a feeble old man, right?”

“Oh, yeah, right! The pity thing!” Stone responded after he came to his senses. “I’m just a poor, helpless old man! I’m 66. I’m almost as old as Sting!”

“And that’s why it was so awful the way the police raided your home,” added Moffat’s Carlson.

Clearly exasperated about Stone’s refusal to defend himself, Carlson wrapped up the interview by helping him plead to viewers for donations. “Okay, just tell people how they can donate money to help you,” he said.

“I set up a donation page based on a phrase people have been yelling at me,” Martin’s Stone said. “It’s called, ‘Hey Roger, go fund yourself!'”

But before leaving the air, Stone spilled what his heart was screaming the whole time.

“Pardon me?” Stone asked the host.

“I said, thank you,” Carlson responded.

“Oh, no. That wasn’t a question,” Stone said. “I was saying that to the president: Pardon me!”
