Robert Pattinson Is Rugged in First Look at ‘The Lighthouse’

AceShowbiz -Don’t look for boyish Robert Pattinson in “The Lighthouse“. After years of staying away from popular movies, the British actor has gone far from his famous clean-cut look in the “Twilight Saga” movie series and turned into a rugged guy for the upcoming horror film.

A24 has debuted the first look at the black-and-white film from “The Witch” writer/director Robert Eggers, showing Pattinson alongside his co-star and lead actor Willem Dafoe. Both are wearing uniforms with thick coats and hats as they portray lighthouse keepers.

Pattinson sports thick mustache with hints of growing facial hair all over his cheek, chin and neck. Dafoe also sports tremendous facial hair, which has turned grayish. They both seem weary as they look at something in the distance, with a lighthouse being appropriately featured in the background.

Very little is known about the movie’s plot, other than the fact that it revolves around Dafoe’s character named Old and takes place in Nova Scotia in 1890. It is described as a “fantasy horror story set in the world of old sea-faring myths.”

Speaking with Interview magazine, Dafoe and Pattinson revealed that the mood on set was so “harsh” that the two actors “hardly talked outside of scenes.” It was so intense that at one point, Pattinson almost lost his cool when he had to repeat the take of a scene multiple times.

“That’s the closest I’ve come to punching a director,” the 32-year-old admitted, adding, “However much I love Robert [Eggers], there was a point where I did five takes walking across the beach, and after a while I was like, ‘What the f**k is going on? I feel like you’re just spraying a fire hose in my face.’ And he was like, ‘I am spraying a fire hose in your face.’ It was like some kind of torture. It definitely creates an interesting energy.”

The movie hasn’t got a release date. It is set to have its world premiere at at the Cannes Film Festival as part of the Directors’ Fortnight program in May.
