Princess Charlotte Apparently Has No Idea She Is a Princess — Here's Why

Princess Charlotte is the Queen of England’s great-granddaughter and fourth-in-line to the British throne. But, right now, the little royal has no idea she is a princess — let alone what that means for her future. Up ahead, find out why Prince William and Kate Middleton haven’t told their daughter of her fate yet.

Does Princess Charlotte know she’s a princess?

Like most little girls her age, Princess Charlotte enjoys playing with her Disney Princesses. Only, she is completely unaware that she and Cinderella, Ariel, Jasmine, and other iconic characters share the same princess status. Why haven’t Prince William and Kate Middleton shared the news with their almost four-year-old daughter?

For one, she is probably too young to even understand what that means. After all, many girls are “princess” to their mothers and fathers. However, her age isn’t the main reason Prince William and Kate Middleton have chosen to prolong the information.

Prince William found out that he was not only a prince but the future King of England at a young age. And, according to reports, he felt that the weight of that role put an enormous amount of pressure on him when he was too young to really understand what it meant and how to deal with it. Although Princess Charlotte most-likely won’t become a monarch, her life has already been planned for her and the responsibilities of royalty can feel huge — especially for a four-year-old. Because of Prince William’s struggles, he and Kate Middleton chose not to tell Prince George, Princess Charlotte, and Prince Louis about their status until they are older.

Does Prince George know he will be king one day?

In avoiding the conversation, Prince William and Kate Middleton run the risk of a school friend breaking the news to their eldest children. After all, Prince George will be six-years-old this year and kids talk. However, keeping a normal life for their children is a top concern for the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge and they are willing to risk it a spoiler for the sake of security and stability.

“As far as we are concerned within our family unity, we are a normal family. I love my children in the same way any father does, and I hope George loves me the same way any son does to his father. We are very normal in that sense,” Prince William shared in an interview. “There’ll be a time and a place to bring George up and understand how he fits in, in the world. But right now, it’s just a case of keeping a secure, stable environment around him and showing as much love as I can as a father,” he continued.

Prince George (and perhaps Princess Charlotte, who already acts like a trained royal and waves at photographers) is allegedly aware that his family lives differently than others but he doesn’t know what it all means just yet. Until then, he is free to grow up in his so-called “normal” environment and be a kid for as long as possible before his father shares the news with him and his sister.
