OWN has claimed a new project from Ava DuVernay.
The Oprah Winfrey Network ordered “Cherish the Day” straight to series, Variety reports. The anthology series comes from DuVernay and is set to explore a different couple’s romantic relationship each season. The episodes will each center on one day in the focal pair’s love story, looking at both everyday and extraordinary moments.
Now that the show has gotten a series order, it is set to premiere in winter 2020. DuVernay is executive producing the series alongside Oprah Winfrey, showrunner Tanya Hamilton, and Paul Garnes. The director has teamed up with all three before; she created OWN’s “Queen Sugar,” which includes both Winfrey and Garnes as executive producers, and Hamilton has directed for the show.
Winfrey, who also worked with DuVernay on 2018’s “A Wrinkle in Time,” praised the director in a statement, calling her “a visionary storyteller.” She added that DuVernay “brings so much care, so much heart, so much love to the art she creates.” Meanwhile, DuVernay shared equally positive words about Winfrey. She said that she is “honored to create television for a network headed by an artist with spectacular vision and unbridled passion for the stories that we want to tell.”
