Lucifer season 5 spoilers: Is Lucifer over amid shocking ending?

Netflix dropped season four of Lucifer earlier this week with fans eagerly binging on all 10 episodes after they were released globally. The new episodes of Lucifer followed on from the season three finale in which Lucifer Morningstar (played by Tom Ellis) revealed his devil face to his partner Chloe Decker (Lauren German), leaving her lost and confused about her feelings for the man she thought she’d known. Season four also saw the introduction of Eve (Inbar Lavi), who was Lucifer’s former flame and seemed to have ulterior motives for re-appearing in his life.

Is Lucifer over amid shocking ending?

WARNING: This article contains major spoilers from Lucifer season 4

The short answer is no – Netflix has yet to decide if it will be recommissioning the supernatural police drama based on the character from the Sandman comics.

Netflix is unlikely to be making any decision right now as the show only arrived on the platform on May 8.

Given the global campaign to save the show last year and the strong fanbase, Lucifer is likely to be sticking around for a little while yet.

However, the Lucifer season four finale titled Who’s da New King of Hell? seemed to leave the story at a place where it could go in any direction.

Lucifer returned to Hell after realising he couldn’t keep Earth or his friends safe while he remained in LA to solve crimes.

He also realised the prophecy that Hell would reign supreme when Lucifer found his first love referred to Chloe rather than Eve, meaning his mere presence posed a danger.

Lucifer kissed Chloe goodbye and returned to the underworld – despite her protests to keep him on Earth.

During the course of the episode, Lucifer had to battle with demon Dromos (Graham McTavish), who was trying to force the Devil to return to Hell.

When Lucifer refused to go back, Dromos resorted to some pretty extreme tactics as he kidnapped half-angel baby Charlie, the son of Amenadiel (D.B. Woodside) and Dr Linda Martin (Rachael Harris).

LUCIFER SEASON 4 ENDING EXPLAINED

Dromos was planning to perform a ritual to turn the infant into the new king of Hell and usurp Lucifer’s throne.

But Lucifer managed to halt the ritual and save the child before any of this could happen.

In the showdown, Dromos summoned more demons from Hell to force Lucifer to return.

Although Lucifer eventually defeated Dromos and banished all the other demons back to hell, he also made the decision to return.

The ending saw an isolated Lucifer in a desolate wilderness as he lorded over his kingdom, suggesting he could stay there forever.

WHO PLAYS EVE IN LUCIFER SEASON 4?

His decision to stay in Hell could spell the end of the show entirely. Then again, the conclusion meant Lucifer could come back to Earth at some point or perhaps Chloe could try to go to Hell to bring him back.

Another option could be a time-jump with Lucifer spending several thousand years in Hell before making a comeback when he feels his authority has been re-established over the inhabitants his realm.

Or perhaps a possible season five could see the action taking place in Hell as Lucifer gets to grips with ruling his kingdom and the show taking a different direction.

Most likely though, Lucifer could get called back to Earth on a special mission or one last card which could be a jail-free card.
