Line of Duty’s Martin Compston denies messaging women on Instagram

Line of Duty star Martin Compston has taken to Instagram to deny all claims that he has been messaging women through the app after someone reportedly impersonated him online.

The married 35-year-old posted a screenshot of the fake account on his page and told his fans that someone had used his identity to message some of his female followers.

Martin, who plays Anti-Corruption Unit Detective Sergeant Steve Arnott in the BBC hit drama, was forced to deny that he had any involvement in the ‘catfishing’ scheme.

Addressing his 50,000 followers, Martin wrote: “Hey troops this stuff is usually harmless but this fake account has apparently been messaging a lot of my female followers for details.

“Obviously not me, thanks for people getting in touch to give me a heads up!”

The imposter account has since been shut down by Instagram.

The former professional footballer wed American actress and model Tianna Chanel Flynn in 2016.

The wedding, which took place in Scotland, was attended by a number of famous faces including Trainspotting writer Irvine Welsh, This is England star Steve Graham, former footballer Murdo Macleod and Martin’s Line of Duty co-star Adrian Dunbar.

Line of Duty is back on TV screens after a two-year hiatus, and the show already pulled in 11.4 million for its first episode of the new series last week.

The BBC confirmed the numbers, and revealed the show is now the most watched programme of the year so far across all its channels.

The crime drama follows the ongoing drama within AC-12, an anti-corruption squad based at Polk Avenue police station.
