Katie Price's 'Nigerian orphan bid is just to get back at ex Peter Andre'

A source has revealed that the 40-year-old star's shock plans are a result of "competition" between Katie and her former flames, with the mother-of-five reportedly struggling to watch the two men play happy families with their new partners.

Speaking to Closer magazine, an insider said: "It's all a big competition for Katie. Watching Pete and Kieran appear so smug with their new perfect families has spurred her on to make the adoption happen."

The former glamour model is also said to hope that giving an orphan a home will make the general public respect her more.

The source continued: "Katie wants to bask in the kudos of giving an orphan a home and, more than anything, she wants to feel on a level playing field with her exes.

"She dreams of having the perfect little family like they have, but pals have warned she may not get the reaction she is craving from Pete and Kieran – and it won't give her the validation she wants."

Pete, 45, and Kieran, 31, who both share two children with Katie, were said to be "shocked and horrified" by Katie's plans to adopt – especially as the revelation came after an incredibly difficult year for the star.

In 2018, Katie narrowly avoided bankruptcy, had a stint in rehab, divorced Kieran, and was arrested on suspicion of drink-driving.

She also revealed that her mother, Amy Price, has been diagnosed with idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis (IPF) – the same disease that killed TV presenter Keith Chegwin.

Her chaotic life saw four of her five children move in with their fathers, with just 16-year-old Harvey remaining in Katie's home with her.

But last month, the star announced that she is looking to welcome her sixth child via adoption.

Speaking on This Morning, Katie said: "I've always said I wanted to adopt a child and don't care if they've got a disability or what age they are. I feel like I can offer a place."

Plans to make her dream a reality came after Katie got talking to a woman at her nail salon who worked with an orphanage in Nigeria.

When asked why she wouldn't adopt a British baby, Katie said: "It's so hard to adopt over here, like so hard.

"I've looked into it for ages."

Katie shares 13-year-old Junior and 11-year-old Princess with ex Peter Andre, and five-year-old Jett and four-year-old Bunny with Kieran.

She is currently in a relationship with toyboy lover Kris Boyson, previously admitting that she wants to welcome children with him too.
