Jumanji: The Next Level has had its first trailer released online today, July 1, 2019. You can watch the trailer here, and read on for everything you need to know about the sequel. Many familiar faces have returned, and new ones added to the extensive and confusing cast list.
What is the Jumanji: The Next Level release date?
Jumanji: The Next Level is out in both the UK and USA on December 13, 2019.
Strictly speaking, The Next Level is the fourth movie in the Jumanji series.
The first came out in 1995 and starred the inimitable Robin Williams.
This was followed by Zathura: A Space Adventure (2005) and Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle (2017).
What is the plot of Jumanji: The Next Level?
In the contemporary series, the board game has become a video game.
The plot synopsis reads: “In Jumanji: The Next Level, the gang is back but the game has changed.
“As they return to Jumanji to rescue one of their own, they discover that nothing is as they expect.
“The players will have to brave parts unknown and unexplored, from the arid deserts to the snowy mountains, in order to escape the world’s most dangerous game.”
Who stars in Jumanji: The Next Level?
The avatars are all back, including Dwayne Johnson as Dr Smolder Bravestone.
He is played by Spencer’s grandfather, Danny DeVito.
Alex Wolff returns as Spencer, though what avatar he controls in the game remains to be seen.
Jack Black returns as Professor Sheldon Oberon, whose avatar is controlled by Ser’Darius Blain’s Anthony “Fridge” Johnson.
Kevin Hart as Franklin “Mouse” Finbar, Fridge’s avatar: a diminutive zoologist and weapons specialist.
In the game, he is played by Danny Glover’s character Milo Walker.
Karen Gillan plays the avatar Ruby Roundhouse, the avatar controlled by Morgan Turner as Martha Kaply.
Nick Jonas plays Alex, with Massi Furlan as Renaldo.
Rhys Darby plays Nigel Billingsley, the players’ main in-game guide.
Other cast members include Awkwafina and Dania Ramirez.
