Jeopardy guest breaks record for most money won in a single game

James Holzhauer crushed it on Jeopardy set a brand new single-game record with a huge win.

On Wednesday night’s episode of the US game show, James landed a huge win of $131,127 (£100,000) in a single game.

The 34-year-old’s huge total last night makes it his tenth win in a row on the show. The lucky lad also broke the record for the most money banked on Jeopardy in a single night.

He was the previous holder of the record by the way, winning a pretty decent $110,914 (£85,000), bringing his total winnings to $697,787 (£540,000). We’re not jealous at all…

James, from Las Vegas, is such a master at this game that he is now in four out of the top five slots of the highest wins on the show. Contestant Roger Craig, from 2010, is in fifth place with $77,000 (£60,000).

But he may have an ace up his sleeve. The contestant is in fact a professional sports gambler which could go some way to explain how he’s been smashing it on Jeopardy so far.

In his appearances James opted for questions with larger amounts attached, and makes risky larger bets on Daily Doubles.

However his strategy paid off in a big way and he now has a tidy sum at his disposal over the weekend.

A video posted on YouTube put together all of James’ highlights from the episode as he cleaned house.

He risked $60,013 ($46,000) on the category about 20th Century Literary Characters, and the answer: ‘His first name refers to the ancient district in which you’d find the Greek capital; his surname is a bird.’

The question was: ‘Who is Atticus Finch?’ the main character from To Kill A Mockingbird.

Answering the question right, he dedicated his performance to his late grandmother, blowing a kiss in tribute to her.
