James Argent 'desperate' to lose weight after quitting booze as girlfriend Gemma Collins sheds two stone on Dancing on Ice

The Towie star, 31, is determined to slim down this year by taking up boxing after being inspired by girlfriend Gemma Collins who’s dropped two-stone as a result of her Dancing on Ice training.

In 2015 James admitted he felt “too fat to be loved” but now he wants to get back to his best ahead of his return to TV and the launch of a brand new reality series with Gemma.

And he’s already started the year as he means to go on by not drinking a drop of alcohol over the festive season in dedication to his sobriety.

In an exclusive interview he said: “In regards to my body – I need to work on that. I need to get back in the gym and boxing again.

“I’m desperate to get back on track. I need to work on my fitness that is my number one New Year’s resolution – but I find it so difficult.

“I struggle to get into a routine and structure with my job I’m here, there and everywhere.

“I’m not going to put a goal or aim on it because I can’t put any pressure on myself. All I want to do is get back into my boxing, set my band up and secure a show on TV with myself and Gemma.”

And his proud girlfriend, who was with James during the interview, couldn't resist singing his praises as she proudly revealed he's been sober for six months.

She said: “James is doing amazing as he’s six months in recovery – so he needs to focus on that and work on one thing at a time.”

James added: “I’ve done really well. I’ve got quite a lot of months now under my belt where I’ve been in a good place. It is still early days but I have come a long way from the mid-summer.”

And James credits his reformation to Gemma’s unwavering support, saying: “We’re in a great place. She gives the best cuddles I man can ask for.”

Gemma's recent weight loss hasn't gone unnoticed by James, who says she's "never looked so good" ahead of the Dancing on Ice launch this Saturday.

He said: "I am going to be in the audience cheering her on. I can’t wait; she has worked so hard, taken no days off, been on time every day – she comes in and she’s sweating and exhausted.

"People are going to be really surprised and see how much she’s put in when she performs. Gemma has never looked so good – she’s like a fine wine, she just gets better with age."

Their closeness has led to interest from ITV bosses to sign the pair for a reality show about their romance – after fans called for Gemma’s one-off special Diva Espana to return for a full series.

James said: “I’m ready to start working again now; in 2019 I will get back into TV work again.

“I’m going to start meeting the bosses at ITV and Lime Pictures from January and then we will be making a plan – whether that be me going back to Towie or Gemma and I doing our own show together.”
