ITV GMB: ‘Fake news!’ Viewers BLAST underwear debate after BA airline shuts down claims

Friday’s edition of Good Morning Britain featured journalists 52-year-old Kate Garraway and Ben Shephard, 44, in the hosting seats.

The presenters welcomed last year’s Apprentice winner Sian Gabbidon and glamour model Nicola McLean to the ITV programme to debate the latest issue in the media, which has seen questions raised over policies for air stewardesses when one story surfaced yesterday claiming the employees had been warned about bras being visible through their white uniform shirts.

Sian and Nicola furiously debated the issue, when all of a sudden Ben and Kate revealed British Airlines had given them a statement refuting all the claims.

Viewers flocked to Twitter in confusion as they shared their frustration with the ITV breakfast programme for delivering a “pointless” debate.

The show began their debate with Nicola claiming: “To be cabin crew you have a uniform for a reason.

“I don’t think it’s appropriate to be showing your bra, unless you’re someone like me who chose glamour modelling as a job. I think it’s just ‘world gone mad’ and it’s just trying to create a feminist debate.”

“In my opinion, not one of those [different coloured bras on the studio models] are offending me,” Sian offered in response.

“Oh not one of those are offending me,” Nicola insisted. “If I’d seen someone on a flight it wouldn’t offend me personally, but as I say I just think it’s just everyone gone mad, and just trying to make out that this is women being dragged back 100 years.

“It’s not it’s about looking professional and sticking to a uniform.”

Ben then cut in with fresh news from the airline, saying: “We’ve got a statement from British Airways. They’ve contacted us this morning to tell us there’s absolutely no evidence whatsoever that any of our cabin crew, colleagues have ever been disciplined for their choice of underwear.”

Wait – so after all that debate, it’s not even an actual story?!

“They say they’re disappointed that an open letter from a trade union containing anecdotes about their current uniform has turned into inaccurate reporting on non-existent policies,” Kate continued.

“They say they have no policy on type of underwear and have no intention of introducing one. So that’s cleared up that position.”

Justifying the segment she carried on: “But thank you [Sian and Nicola] for debating the general issue and thank you to our models too.”

The presenter then teased the models: “You haven’t offended me other than the fact that I’ve been pressing my button and you haven’t brought the drinks trolley round once! So if you could do that later that would be great!”

Annoyed viewers shared their confusion over the development, as one person said: “Wait – so after all that debate, it’s not even an actual story?! Jesus Christ @GMB #GMB.”

“#gmb was that even worth a debate???” another frustrated fan asked.

A third declared: “Fake news then #gmb.”

While a fourth slammed: “Seems #gmb ran out of actual stories to provoke a reaction, so have decided to invent one instead.”

“Why are you even arguing about this?? #GMB,” a fifth added.

Others were invested in the arguments, as one opined: “Couldn’t agree more with @siangabbidon on @GMB. The flight attendants are on their flights for hours on end. Their bra isn’t an accessory, it’s there for a level of comfortability. So, what does it matter about the colour? I’d rather a comfortable flight attendant on my flight.”

“Totally wasn’t expecting to agree with @NicolaMcLean but I do. Definition of uniform is to be the same. No need to force a debate where it doesn’t exist. #GMB,” another viewer offered.

Good Morning Britain airs weekdays at 6am on ITV.
