Game of Thrones season 8: Winterfell’s hidden weapon REVEALED in behind-the-scenes video

WARNING: This article contains spoilers from Game of Thrones season eight, episode one.

The Game of Thrones season eight premiere saw almost everyone descend on Winterfell, as they prepare for the dreaded invasion of the White Walkers.

Secret lovers Jon Snow (played by Kit Harington) and Daenerys Targaryen (Emilia Clarke) led a humongous army to the gates of the Northern castle.

Meanwhile, Jaime Lannister (Nikolaj Coster-Waldau) snuck into the compound under a hooded cloak after defying his sister, Cersei Lannister (Lena Headey), and leaving Kings Landing.

However, the Starks, Lannisters and Targaryens were not the only ones to travel to the North, as George Lucas, the creator of Star Wars, also joined in on the action.

Although, the 74-year-old filmmaker did not make his own Ed Sheeran-style cameo he was present during filming for the long-awaited premiere episode.

A new behind-the-scenes video from HBO showed George on the set of the fantasy drama directing Kit Harington and Emilia Clarke, both 32.

Of George’s visit, Game of Thrones co-creator David Benioff admitted: “When we found out that George Lucas wanted to visit, we thought maybe it was a practical joke.

“Then we were really excited and also nervous because it’s George Lucas.”

David Nutter, who returned to the series after a two-season hiatus following an injury, said it was “so cool” to have the renowned filmmaker sit on his director’s chair, directing Kit and Emilia.

George appeared to be having a whale of a time on set as he was seen joking with lead actor Kit in between takes.

“No direction for you, I don’t really care about you,” he told the TV star. “I don’t care about what happens to you.”

Despite George’s presence on set, it is hard to see what influence the director had on the show, which saw 17.4 million tune in to watch the first episode of the series on Sunday night (April 14).

At the end of the premiere episode Jaime spotted Bran Stark (Isaac Hempstead Wright), who he shoved out of a window many years ago, from across the courtyard in Winterfell.

Bran, who lost the use of his legs following the incident, stared at the Kingslayer as the two locked eyes before the credits began to roll.

The ending of the first episode mirrors that of the last scene of the show’s pilot and sets the series up for the remaining season.

Will Bran seek revenge this season? And, finally reveal what he saw Jaime and Cersei doing all those years ago?

Teasing a showdown between the pair, actor Nikolaj Coster-Waldau said: “[Jaimie’s] mission changes once again. It goes from, ‘I know my brother Tyrion is there and I’m going to fight the good fight’ to, ‘I’m in deep s**t now.’”

He went on to tell Entertainment Weekly: “Because this is the Lord of Winterfell that I tried to kill and I’m sure he wants revenge. That’s what Jaime expects.”

Game of Thrones continues Sunday on HBO in the US and the following day on Sky Atlantic in the UK.
