WHERE IS GAME OF THRONES SEASON 8 FILMED?

“Even though it’s six episodes, it was nearly a full year in Belfast either prepping it or shooting it.”

The writer, who works with D.B. Weiss on the epic fantasy show, continued: “It’s quite extraordinary what the crew and the actors created, and I think when people see it they’ll understand why it took so long.

“No-one’s going on vacation or slacking off, it’s just that last season is far beyond what we’ve ever attempted before, and it is taking a really f**king long time – and I hope it will be worth it.”

Season eight is also expected to have some of the longest running times out of the previous runs but HBO coms Casey Bloys recently quashed reports episodes could be running to two hours.

Episode three was called The Long Night and clocked in at 82 minutes, making it the longest episode ever in the show.

The epic Battle of Winterfell was hailed and criticised in equal measure with some hitting out at the episode for being visually rather than tonally too dark.

Will there be another series of Game of Thrones?

No, is the short answer. Season eight is the last one for the HBO series but fear not, there’s plenty more coming from the George RR Martin franchise.

There were initially five spin-off series in development but only one of these has now been picked up.

Kick-Ass writer Jane Goldman is working with Martin on the prequel series and production has started on the new fantasy drama.

According to HBO: “Taking place thousands of years before the events of Game of Thrones, the series chronicles the world’s descent from the golden Age of Heroes into its darkest hour.

“From the horrifying secrets of Westeros’s history to the true origin of the White Walkers, the mysteries of the East to the Starks of legend, only one thing is for sure: It’s not the story we think we know.”

Game of Thrones season 8 airs on HBO in the US on Sundays 9pm ET and on Sky Atlantic and NOW TV in the UK on Mondays at 2am & 9pm BST
